NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Tyla surely made heads turn at the 2024 Met Gala on May 6 as she appeared in a Balmain dress that was so tight she could not even walk properly.

PEOPLE reported that her look was inspired by "the sands of time” and she “wanted something out of the box this year.”

“So when Balmain showed me the idea and sketch, I just knew it was perfect. The idea was crazy, and I loved it,” the South African singer reportedly stated.

Creative Director of Balmain describes idea behind dress

Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain, told Vogue, “The inspiration behind this creation stemmed from a desire to redefine boundaries and transform a transient material into an everlasting masterpiece.”

He further explained, “The idea of sculpting a garment from something as ephemeral as sand ignited my imagination, and I could not be happier with the end result.”

Tyla’s dress draws ridicule

But it seems people on the Internet weren't as impressed by the creativity as an X user tweeted, “A long time ago women couldn’t wear trousers and therefore couldn’t ride bikes or horses. 2024 and women cannot walk, tell me about regression.”

Another shared, “Absurd at the highest level.”

A person commented on Instagram, “Why wear a dress you can’t move in? How ridiculous.”

“How ridiculous is this lol,” another stated.

A third person mentioned, “It’s really laughable - there is not a point to this silliness.”

Someone else noted, “I don’t understand why these women are wearing these dresses they can’t even walk in.”

“I can’t quite seem to understand the clothes that you use stairs? Or walk? Or sit? And now many outfits are completely see-through. Can somebody please remind me of the purpose of wearing clothes again?” another asked.

A comment read, “Have you witnessed anything more ridiculous than this, dressed up and cannot climb steps or move sideways, fashion at its most hideous.”

Another comment added, “Wearing a dress you can’t walk on your own in is a new level of ridiculousness I am so done with.”

A critic commented on Instagram, “Why? What are we doing? Creating clothing that make women helpless? Regression honey, regression.”

“OMG!!! Women - WHY ?? This so beyond STUPID and so FUNNY 😂😂. Okay going to take a break maybe they are at the top 🤣😆when I return,” a user added.
