'That wasn’t really on him': Internet rejoices as Drake removed from 2021 Astroworld crowd-crush lawsuit
HOUSTON, TEXAS: In a move that has received widespread approval from the internet community, rapper Drake has been dismissed from multiple lawsuits related to the tragic Astroworld festival in November 2021.
The dismissal comes after Drake's legal team successfully argued that the artist had no knowledge of any safety or crowd control problems prior to his surprise guest performance at the event hosted by Travis Scott, as reported by Rolling Stone.
Numerous lawsuits were filed in aftermath of Astroworld tragedy
"Mr Graham did not receive any security briefings, was not informed of any crowd control issues, injuries or deaths in the crowd, or any stop show orders at any time either before or during his 14-minute performance," said Drake's attorney in court documents.
The Astroworld festival, held in Houston, Texas, ended in tragedy when a crowd surge resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals and left thousands more injured.
In the aftermath, numerous lawsuits were filed against the event organizers, including Scott, Live Nation, and Apple, which livestreamed the festival.
Court records revealed that errors in planning by organizers, insufficient crowd control measures, and gate-crashers contributed to the massive overcrowding that led to the disaster.
Nearly 5,000 people have claimed injuries, with lawsuits alleging negligence in safety protocols, crowd control, emergency response, and security measures.
Drake issued heartfelt statement shortly after Astroworld incident
Shortly after the tragic incident, Drake had issued a heartfelt statement on Instagram, expressing his condolences and offering support to the affected families.
"My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering. I will continue to pray for all of them, and will be of service in any way I can, May God be with you all," he wrote.
With the first trial scheduled for May 6 and several cases already settled, a Texas judge recently ordered Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino to provide testimony in the ongoing legal proceedings initiated by families affected by the tragedy, according to IQ Magazine.
