DES MOINES, IOWA: During the fifth GOP debate hosted by CNN on Wednesday night in Des Moines, Iowa, the two Republican candidates - Nikki Haley and Governor Ron DeSantis, looking to become the primary alternative to former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, exchanged heated arguments and accusations of dishonesty.

Governor Ron DeSantis highlighted his accomplishments in achieving conservative goals by implementing such policies in Florida, while former South Carolina Governor and Trump's former US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, emphasized her forward-looking vision for the country.

Although the Iowa caucuses are just four days away, the two candidates fixated more on their personal records, feats, achievements, and plans for the future, ignoring for the most part, the immediate political situation, where former President Donald Trump maintains a significant lead in national GOP primary polls.

What did Ron DeSantis say about President Biden in the final GOP debate?

On the debate stage, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis slammed President Biden for stationing American troops in the Middle East who are increasingly getting drawn into the ongoing conflict.

DeSantis posted the excerpt from CNN’s debate where he spoke in detail about how he feels regarding the US troops that are posted outside the country on X (formerly known as Twitter).

His caption read: “I would never put our troops in harm's way like Biden is doing in the Middle East without defending them with everything we’ve got.”

In the video he posted, DeSantis begins by saying, “After the attacks against Israel, anyone with half a brain knows Iran is behind this. They fund Hamas, they fund Hezbollah.”

“We did a special session of legislature down in Florida. We expanded sanctions against Iran. If we were our own country, we'd be the 14th largest economy in the world,” he noted.

The Florida Governor went on to explain, “The root of this is Biden came into office and he relaxed the sanctions on Iran. They've had massive amounts of money flooding into their country, just like under the Obama administration. They take that money and they use it to fund jihad around the world.”

“I'm the only one running for president that served in the armed forces. I deployed to Iraq back in 2007, 2008. So I understand what our military goes through,” DeSantis claimed, adding. “I would never put our troops in harm's way like Biden is doing in the Middle East without defending them with everything they got.”

“If you harm a hair on the head of one of our service members, you are going to have hell to pay. He's leaving them out to dry, and I think it's disgraceful for a commander-in-chief to do that,” DeSantis concluded.

Internet slams DeSantis for saying he would never put the US troops in harm's way like Biden

People on X mocked the Florida Governor for his tall claims of never leaving the US military service members out to dry to further his own political ambitions.

One X user remarked: "Well, that's a bold-faced lie. You're too inexperienced, for one thing. You're a liar, for another. You're a fascist and a traitor. No thanks."

Another user said: "Trump is killing it nobody’s watching you bro drop out"

Another user wrote: "And was that statement followed up with: "So you would move militarily against Iran?" Of course NOT... you would hurt his chances if you actually held his little feet to the fire on half his statements..."

"Of course you wouldn’t. You’d hand Ukraine over to Russia by failing to assist Ukraine in their defense." one user claimed.

Another X user remarked: "Nikki Haley is wiping the floor with you, Ronnie. You're very obviously not ready to play on the national stage."

Finally, this user tweeted: "Because clearly, you know exactly how to conduct foreign policy and military operations, unlike Biden, who has only been doing this for, you know, decades. And let's not forget that your selfless commitment to defending our troops is totally not just a political talking point that you're using to score points with your base. Because, you know, nothing says "I care about our troops" more than using them as pawns in a game of political posturing. So let's all just trust your judgment, because clearly, you've got it all figured out."
