PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Donald Trump confirmed his intention to testify in the New York hush money criminal trial on Friday, April 12, the DailyMail reported.

The 2024 presumptive Republican nominee expressed his belief that jury selection, slated to begin on April 15, is a matter of "luck."

Trump faces 34 charges of falsifying business records regarding a $130,000 payment made to Stormy Daniels to conceal their alleged affair ahead of the 2016 presidential election. With the commencement of the trial, he will become the first former POTUS to be tried on criminal charges.

What did Donald Trump say to reporters at the Mar-a-Lago press conference?

During a press conference on the topic of "election integrity" held at Mar-a-Lago on Friday, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson and Trump fielded questions about the upcoming hush money trial.

Trump was particularly pressed on whether testifying in his own defense was a "risky" move. Despite the potential pitfalls, the ex-POTUS rejected the notion and pledged to tell the truth in his testimony.

"I'm testifying. I tell the truth. All I can do is tell the truth. And the truth is, that there's no case," said the ex-commander-in-chief. He reiterated his previous claims regarding the case, saying, "It's a scam. It's a scam. That's not a trial. That's not a trial. That's a scam."

Trump’s announcement that he would willingly testify in the trial comes on the heels of the judge's recent ruling to decline a delay due to the significant publicity surrounding the case.

Nevertheless, the ex-president remains unwavering in his stance and has denounced the upcoming trial, claiming that it is "election interference," just four days before the jury selection process commences.

"It depends who you get," said Trump of the jury selection, adding, "It's very unfair that I am having a trial there. It's very unfair that we have this judge who hates Trump."

His legal defense team has consistently maintained that the city's majority leans Democratic, making it impossible for the Republican to receive a fair trial.

Trump labeled the criminal trial a "witch-hunt," a term he has previously applied to his many legal challenges.

"It's very bad for New York and it's very bad for the judicial system in New York," declared the former POTUS.

According to New York state law, it's mandatory for Trump to attend the trial in person, which means that he would have to take time off from campaigning for the upcoming election.

Although the trial won't require any testimonies, Trump's presence will likely be caught on camera and he could make statements from the courthouse hallways.

If found guilty, Trump can face up to four years in prison for each of the 34 charges that have been brought against him.

Having said that, it's more probable that the 77-year-old would be sentenced to probation due to him being a first-time offender in the Empire State.

Internet trolls Donald Trump as he confirms he will testify at the hush money trial

One remarked, "Testify and attempt to insult the intelligence of the jury. Do it," and another added, "Trump is the most honest man - frankly in the history of honesty itself. Many people are saying that."

"That’s a lie," declared a person, while someone else claimed, "Trump will never testify he can’t tell the truth and all the evidence has been gathered."

An individual noted, "If he told the truth it would probably be the first time in his life." "Pure comedy," simply wrote one more.

Another person quipped, "Trump can’t wait to tell the truth that’s why he tried to delay the trial over and over!"
