'That's my man': WNBA star Brittney Griner welcomes her first baby boy with wife Cherelle Griner

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle Griner have welcomed their bundle of joy into their life! Recently, during an interview with CBS Sports, the WNBA star announced the birth of her first child with wife Cherelle. 

The couple, who celebrated their sixth-anniversary last month recently welcomed their baby boy on July 8.

Brittney Griner announced birth of her first baby

During an interview with CBS Sports on Friday, the Phoenix Mercury star revealed that a baby boy was born to Cherelle on July 8. 

The baby boy, named Bash weighed 7 pounds and 8 ounces during his birth.  The 33-year-old athlete gushed about her newborn baby, saying, “That’s my man. He is amazing.”

Brittney further shared her thoughts as a first-time parent while revealing, “They said as soon as you see them, everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window. That’s literally what happened.”

However, the new parent has to stay apart from the child for a few weeks as Brittney has to board the Paris-bound flight to represent the USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This is the third time Brittney will be representing the nation in the Olympics.

Though she has to leave the baby for some time, the two-time Olympic Gold medalist is sure that her baby boy will understand when the time comes. 

“It kind of sucks because I have to leave, but at the same time, he will understand,” Brittney shared.

The athlete gushed that her life had completely changed after the arrival of their baby. 

She shared, “My whole phone has turned into him now.”

The couple announced their pregnancy through an adorable post on Instagram photos, the pair locked their hands back in April. Sharing a reel of ultrasound for the photo.

Brittney Griner will be representing US for the third time

The newly minted parent is soon flying away to Paris to represent Team USA in women’s basketball for the Paris Olympics. 

This would also mark the first time Brittney would be representing the nation after she was detained in Russia for drug charges in 2022 and spent almost ten months in jail.

She shared during an interview with NBC News, “BG is locked in and ready to go,” and added, “I’m happy, I’m in a great place.”

She continued to gush that she was now going to give her all to represent the nation that saved her. “I’m representing my country, the country that fought for me to come back. I’m gonna represent it well,” added Brittney.
