WASHINGTON, DC: In the wake of President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will not seek re-election for a second term in the 2024 presidential race, 'The View' co-host Ana Navarro has taken the opportunity to address one of Biden's prominent supporters, actor George Clooney.

Clooney, known for his significant contributions to Biden's campaign and his public plea for the president to withdraw from the race, is now being called out by Navarro to show his continued support for the Democratic Party.

Ana Navarro expresses frustration over Biden’s withdrawal from 2024 race

Ana Navarro, a political commentator and co-host of 'The View', shared her sentiments about Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

She described her reaction as a mix of nostalgia and frustration.

“I was sad in the way when you see a champion athlete retire [and] leave it all on the field and walk away into the sunset. That made me say, it gave me nostalgia,” Navarro reflected on Biden’s decision to step back from the race.

Navarro also expressed her anger at the treatment Biden received from some of his supposed allies. “I’m also mad because [Biden] has been dragged relentlessly for three weeks by some people who supposedly were his friends,” she said.

In a direct appeal to George Clooney, Navarro called for the actor to show his commitment to the Democratic cause. “I hope that a lot of those donors that went out and said all sorts of things about him come back with a big check now,” Navarro declared, addressing the camera and adding, “George Clooney es contigo [This is for you].”

Sara Haines challenges Navarro’s call for Clooney’s support

However, Sara Haines, another co-host of 'The View', offered a counterpoint to Navarro’s call for Clooney’s financial support. Haines acknowledged the legitimacy of critique in the high-stakes arena of presidential politics.

“There is room for criticism when you’re talking about the biggest job in the world, and I don’t think those people that are friends, even George Clooney’s op-ed, was really touching and beautifully written saying, ‘This is hard to say out loud.’ So a lot of those people were torn themselves and a party, is not a president, it’s an entire party and every election matters down that ballot as well,” Haines argued.

She praised those who spoke up for their beliefs, saying, “I commend the people that took that risk and said, ‘We need to do this.’ Because I do think that began some very hard conversations.”

George Clooney previously urged Joe Biden to withdraw from 2024 race

On July 17, 2024, George Clooney called for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race in a New York Times op-ed, criticizing Biden’s age and recent debate performance.

Clooney argued that Biden, despite his illustrious political career, could not overcome the challenges posed by age and time.

The actor declared that it was "devastating to say it," but the Biden he encountered at a fundraising event just three weeks ago was not the Joe Biden of 2010, Clooney wrote.

He noted that the president’s performance during a recent debate against Donald Trump was indicative of his declining abilities, adding, “He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020.”

Biden’s withdrawal and Harris's endorsement spark reactions from Hollywood and beyond

On July 21, 2024, President Biden declared that he would not accept the Democratic nomination for a second term. This announcement came as a significant moment in the 2024 election cycle, prompting reactions from both the public and prominent figures in Hollywood.

Following Biden's decision, he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the new Democratic presidential nominee.

The shift in the Democratic ticket has energized many in the party, with Hollywood figures like Damon Lindelof and Aaron Sorkin expressing their support for Harris and encouraging donors to rally behind the new candidate to ensure a Democratic victory against Donald Trump in the upcoming November elections.
