'The View' co-hosts discuss dangers of AI as deep-fake images of Taylor Swift make rounds of social media
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The January 26 episode of 'The View' had co-hosts Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin talk about the dangers of the growing usage of artificial intelligence and deep-fake technology.
Broaching the subject around the Hot Topics table, Behar said that one should be concerned about AI, because "right now explicit deep-fake images of Taylor Swift are making rounds on social media," one of which received "45 million views before being taken down."
"There were also fake robocalls in President Biden's voice…urging voters to not vote in the New Hampshire primary," she shared, before asking the table if the matter was only going to get worse from there.
Sunny Hostin claimed to be not scared by AI
"I think if we use (AI technology) and regulate it, then it's an important advancement. I don't believe it's going to take over the world," she stated, claiming that the situation would not turn as bad as some sci-fi films such as The Terminator suggest.
When Behar informed Hostin that 96% of deep-fake images created were pornographic, the latter responded, "That's why they need to be regulated."

She went on to mention Sinead Bovell, a futurist and founder of tech company WAYE, who called for passing a "preventing deep fakes of intimate images act," and New York Congressman Joe Morelle, who has already introduced legislation to "end this AI-generated deep fake pornography."
Ana Navarro's mistrust in the legislative offices
"Sunny, this Congress couldn't pass a bill to say that apple pie is a good thing," mocked Navarro, after Hostin called for legal regulations.
"The answer (to the AI problem) is awareness, knowing that not everything you see is real and really going to legitimate sources for your information, and not re-tweeting or amplifying something unless you know that it is authentic," she said.
Griffin was in agreement with Navarro, voicing, "We cannot rely on Congress (that) has not done a major tech policy reform in over 20 years."
"But we're heading into an election season where I don't think we're even remotely prepared for deep fake technology and artificial intelligence," she added, sounding concerned.
