NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'The View' co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin discussed the hearing of Dr Anthony Fauci before the House Select Subcommittee on the coronavirus pandemic on June 4 episode.

Dr Fauci appeared voluntarily for the first public testimony since stepping down from government office at the end of 2022, where he denied a wide range of accusations leveled against him by Republican politicians, NBC News reports.

Griffin called Fauci her friend and claimed that his hearing had her "blood pressure through the roof."

"To the folks on the right who decided to make him this enemy number 1, he (Fauci) did not have the ability to execute policy. he advised Donald Trump," she said. "If you have a problem with the Covid guidelines like social distancing, your issue is with your leader, Donald Trump, take it up with him," she added.

"(Fauci) was purely an advisor, I was in those meetings with him ... There are very real mistakes that we should learn from for the next pandemic - how do we get kids back in the classroom, how do we use 'operation warpspeed' to quickly address the next pandemic - but it is such an indictment of our political discourse (that) the public health officials fear for their lives."

During his hearing, Fauci said that he had faced "credible death threats" for his work during the pandemic and that his family, which includes his wife and three daughters, continued to face harassment.

Griffin mentioned that she had recently seen Fauci with "eight bodyguards around him. A man in his eighties who is a doctor. That is so shameful and we should be so embarrassed, the misinformation that has been spread and weaponized against him."

"It will hurt (response to) future pandemics the way he has been treated. What credible, serious doctors are going to want to go in if they know that half the country are going to demonize them and turn against them, and their lives will be threatened," she added.

Joy Behar slams Marjorie Taylor Greene for her comments on Dr Anthony Fauci

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) reportedly said in the Subcommittee hearing that Dr Fauci belonged in prison and did not deserve to have a medical license. Speaking with reporters afterward, she doubled down saying, "Fauci belongs in prison. He should be tried for mass murder, and he should be tried for crimes against humanity. That’s how I feel after that hearing."

Behar called her out for her comments, saying she had "no business being on a committee on science."

"This is the woman who says 'Jewish space lasers cause fires.' She has skipped 7 of the 10 hearings, but this is something she said that I find hilarious - she has publicly questioned, 'If the Earth spins a 1,000 miles an hour, why can't we feel ourselves moving?'"

"She is really dumb, ... really stupid, and so disrespectful to Dr Fauci. And by the way, science evolves. What you know on Monday can change on Thursday. This is an evolving disease and we didn't know anything," Behar concluded.
