'This isn't pro-life, it's pro-cruelty': Ana Navarro slams abortion ban as she recalls devastating story
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A Texas judge granted permission for an abortion to a woman whose fetus was diagnosed with fatal abnormality, despite the state's ban on the procedure.
31-year-old Kate Cox, who is currently 20 weeks pregnant was informed that if the fetus' heartbeat were to stop, an induced labor carried the risk of uterine rupture, and a cesarean section at full term would endanger her ability to carry another child, as per the Associated Press.
However, on the December 8 episode of 'The View', host Joy Behar brought up the subject during the first 'Hot Topics' segment with all the ladies chiming in to discuss the judge's decision to exempt Kate Cox from the state's abortion ban.
Despite being a minor victory, co-host Ana Navarro expressed her outrage that the pregnant woman had to go to court for the exemption in the first place.
Furious Ana Navarro talks about reproductive rights on 'The View'
On Friday's episode, host Joy Behar kicked off the 'Hot Topics' segment saying, "Let's get into hot topics. Not a Christmas topic, it's a heavy one, but we have to talk about the news, which we are doing right now. This is an important story actually because pro-choice advocates are cautiously celebrating a courtroom victory in Texas after a judge gave a doctor an exemption against the state's abortion ban."
She continued, "The lawsuit revolved around 31-year-old Kate Cox who wanted to end her pregnancy after finding out that their fetus wouldn't survive, that she may not survive giving birth, and it could prevent her from having another child. But she wants people to know that the ruling doesn't make this any less heartbreaking for her."
Following this, a clip of Cox talking about the ordeal was played. However, it was Navarro who caught everyone's attention.
A furious Navarro started by saying, "It is absolutely outrageous, offensive, ridiculous, unacceptable that a woman has to be going through the grief of losing her child. This woman wants this pregnancy. This woman's baby has a chromosomal disorder that the baby will die."
She continued, "In the midst of having to make the decision, she has to go to a court to argue for the right to have an abortion. I mean, we're in 2023. This is not Gilead. This is America, and it's not just Texas."
She added, "There are 14 other states where there are bans. Reminded me of the case in Florida where a woman was forced to have a child to term who had no kidneys. She held it in her arms for 90 minutes while it gasped for air. This is not pro-life. It's pro-cruelty and pro-inhumanity."
Navarro was met with a huge round of applause from the audience as she concluded her stance on the matter.
