Sundance Head calls nearly fatal accident ‘one of the craziest things’

Taking to his social media page on Monday, November 18, a few days after being shot in the “fatty area of his stomach” by his gun, Sundance Head began, “I wanted to come on and tell you guys that I’m still alive, thankfully."

“Thanks to the good Lord above and the wonderful first responders as well as the trauma team at [The University of Texas at Tyler]. They did a wonderful job and they really did keep me alive. I was sure that I was gonna die. It was one of the craziest things that ever happened to me,” he stated.

In his video statements shared in two parts, Head, who was discharged from the hospital on November 16, went on to mention “a couple of gentlemen” who stopped to help him.

He shared, “I had about a dozen cars go by that [saw] me and [made] eye contact and they didn’t stop. They just kept going. I’m telling you what, I was at the end of the rope.”

Head, however, admitted that “a couple of gentlemen turned around.”

“I want to tell you that I love you. I’m so thankful that you were in my life at that moment. It wasn’t a chance meeting between us,” the 46-year-old songwriter asserted, before adding, “I look forward to spending more time with you in the future.”

Sundance Head’s wife reveals he shot himself while 'reaching in to grab his' gun

Sundance Head’s statement came after his wife Misty posted an update about her husband on his Facebook account.

She wrote, “It was not his hunting rifle and no nobody shot him. He was out of the vehicle reaching in to grab his 22 when he grabbed it the 22 came out of its holster and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right and went off.”

“Sundance said it happened so fast and he could see the bullet dislodging. I thought he called 911 he didn’t- he put his hands in pocket for phone immediately after getting hit but phone wasn’t there just filled with blood so he took off down the driveway out to the main road to flag a car down for help,” the spouse added.

In the social media post, Misty also noted that her husband was “so lucky and grateful to be alive. Thank you to the Good Samaritan who stopped and helped and the fast response by life flight and the doctors.”
