Update: Archewell's official spokesperson in a statement to Newsweek stated that the comments "did not come from us", stating simply: "With respect to Page Six, that did not come from us.

A source had reportedly spoken to Page Six saying that had Meghan Markle committed the same error as Kate Middleton she would have been 'annihilated'.

This statement had kicked a lot of debate online amid supporters of Kate and Meghan.

LONDON, ENGLAND: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle get unprecedented support from the internet as a royal biographer calls the Sussexes “hypocrites” over the fiasco surrounding Kate Middleton’s photoshop fail.

After the Sussexes’ close friends claimed that Meghan would have been 'annihilated' had she allowed such a blunder, Harry’s biographer Angela Levin lashed out at the Montecito couple’s camp and called them 'hypocrites'.

Levin referred to the Sussexes’ doctored image when they shared the news of their second pregnancy with a digitally enhanced picture where a willow tree was placed in the photograph of Harry and Meghan.

Sussex camp claims couple would have been ‘annihilated’

Following Kate Middleton’s planned abdominal surgery in January 2024, the Princess has remained out of the public eye and is not expected to return to the royal duties until after Easter.

Because of her prolonged absence from the public eye, however, outlandish claims and conspiracy theories started making the rounds of the internet.

To put the rumors to rest, as Kensington Palace released a sweet family photograph of the Princess who is recuperating from her health issues, further wild theories about the photo made their way to the internet.

After the family photo of Kate - surrounded by her three children - received the 'kill notice' from six photo hosting sites that pulled down the photograph, the rumors intensified.

Some of the social media users even claimed that the photo was not an original one, and theorized it was engineered from the photos of Kate’s visit to a baby bank in London in November 2023.

Nevertheless, Kate owned up to the Photoshop edit failure and posted an apology message on the official account of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Meanwhile, sources close to the Sussexes jumped onto the bandwagon of the Photoshop fiasco and shared with Page Six that had Meghan allowed the same mistake to happen, she would have been “annihilated.”

The source shared, “If Harry and Meghan had ever encountered the same issue they would have been annihilated. The same rules do not apply to both couples.”

they, however, claimed the Duchess of Sussex would not have made the same mistake owing to her “keen eye.”

The insider added, “This isn’t a mistake that Meghan would ever make … she has a keen eye and freakish attention to detail.”

The statement of the insider, nevertheless, was noticed by the royal biographer Angela Levin, who clapped back by referring to the 2021 announcement of Meghan’s pregnancy with an edited photo.

Levin said to The Sun, “The Sussexes’ camp are huge hypocrites,” before adding, “A tree was doctored in their photograph to create a special backdrop so how dare their camp say anything about Catherine’s?”

She added, “The criticism of Catherine has been entirely unfair,” before noting, “She is loved and an important part of the Royal Family and before this has never put a foot wrong compared to other people.”

The fiasco related to Harry and Meghan’s photo arose when the London-based photographer Misan Harriman shared that he altered the Sussexes’ photo with 'technology' to include a willow tree.

He once appeared on BBC Radio 3’s ‘Private Passions’ podcast where he said, “It's amazing what you can do with technology” as he shared that he created the image using “virtual shooting," per Daily Mail.

The photographer continued, “My most well-known virtual shoot is the portrait I took of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announcing their pregnancy.”

He admitted that the photo was taken remotely as he was located at a different place from the couple because of the pandemic and he took the photograph remotely by “pressing the shutter” from a completely different location.

As the podcast inquired, “They weren't actually under a willow tree, were they? They were lying outside in a meadow, weren't they?” the veteran photographer replied, “Yeah they were lost in their love, at home, in their garden, comfortable, celebrating new joy.”

Fans rally in support of Meghan and Harry

The Sussexes get support from the social media users who defend them saying it was only a tree added, and not the people in the photo.

One of the fans said, "There's a difference between a tree and the possibility of an entirely different day 🤣."

Someone else added, "Whatever the editing was it doesn't appear to be as significant as the Kate one the other day."

"They didn’t release a photo in response to press inquiries about her health or location, now did they. 🙄," observed someone else.

Another netizen added, "Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not tru to deceive the public with any photo they issued. Kate Middleton's photo was issued as a health update, proof of life, and that her children are with her. Instead, the Palace deceived the public by issuing a forged photo of 3 old images."

Another fan wrote, "🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 A willow tree was added. So what! A tree? A tree? You've got to be kidding 🤣 So that's Harry and Meghan in the photo. They're not added. Apples and oranges! It's them in the photo. No one was added."
