SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has generated conversations and discontent among residents in his upscale estate in the Seattle area recently.

According to a Business Insider report, accusations surfaced that he did not participate in taking out his trash on Cleanup Day, causing a stir on social media as users shared their reactions.

The New York Post reported that Bezos owns four properties in the affluent Hunts Point enclave, acquired for $45 million.

Bezos, the world's second-richest person according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, boasts a fortune valued at $171 billion.

Jeff Bezos accused of not taking out trash

In a report by Business Insider, Hunts Point is identified as the residence of some of the wealthiest business leaders in the US.

Neighbors assert that the billionaire in question, Bezos, has refrained from participating in the neighborhood's yearly springtime tradition known as "Cleanup Day."

During this event, residents come together to plant trees, weed gardens, and collect litter.

As per a Hunts Point resident quoted by Business Insider on Friday, December 8, "I've seen a billionaire pick up trash on Cleanup Day. Not Jeff Bezos."

According to a report from Business Insider, the event includes a continental breakfast, a barbecue lunch, and a bouncy house for kids.

In 2019, after his divorce, Bezos moved to Hunts Point, a neighborhood that boasts notable residents such as former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Costco co-founder James Sinegal.

After his divorce from writer MacKenzie Scott, Bezos acquired a $37.5 million waterfront estate, along with three other smaller homes nearby for staff members.

According to Business Insider, neighbors are voicing frustration over Bezos' security guards, who allegedly called the police twice to report suspicious individuals that turned out to be employees and contractors of some of his affluent neighbors.

One resident shared with Business Insider, "Jeff Bezos acts like he owns Hunts Point." The report further notes that Bezos himself is seldom seen, with residents appreciating the accessibility of other billionaires in the vicinity.

A resident commented, “He’s not much of a neighbor. He’s so busy with all this national stuff,” per Business Insider.

Following the allegations of Bezos not taking part in "Cleanup Day," numerous social media users opted to share their sentiments on the matter.
