'This isn't an empty promise': Presler threatens Thune's 2028 if Senate stalls SAVE Act

WASHINGTON, DC: Conservative grassroots activist Scott Presler has dramatically escalated pressure on Senate Republicans, warning he will work to help primary and defeat Senate Majority Leader John Thune in 2028 if lawmakers fail to pass the SAVE America Act.

In a post on X, Presler declared, "If Senate Republicans do NOT pass the SAVE America Act, I will work tirelessly to help primary & defeat Senate Majority Leader John Thune in 2028. Anyone who knows me knows that this isn't an empty promise."

The warning is notable because it comes not from an elected Republican or conservative commentator, but from one of the GOP's most recognizable grassroots organizers.

Presler has built a national profile through large-scale voter registration drives, volunteer mobilization efforts, and election activism rather than holding public office, making his public ultimatum a sign of mounting pressure from the Republican base over election-related legislation.

Presler's warning marks one of the strongest public threats yet directed at Thune from within the conservative movement over the fate of the SAVE America Act.

Unlike disagreements between Republican lawmakers, the criticism originates from an activist whose influence is rooted in organizing volunteers and expanding conservative voter turnout across battleground states.

His message suggests that some grassroots conservatives are prepared to hold Senate leadership politically accountable if the legislation fails to advance.

While Thune has not publicly responded, the comments add fresh pressure on Republicans navigating internal divisions over legislative priorities.

Presler has never held elected office, but he has become one of the conservative movement's best-known grassroots figures through years of voter registration campaigns, neighborhood organizing, and volunteer initiatives.

He first gained national attention through community cleanup efforts before becoming heavily involved in conservative activism and election outreach.

Since then, he has traveled nationwide encouraging voter registration, particularly in competitive states where Republicans have sought to expand turnout.

That outsider status distinguishes his criticism from routine political infighting, giving his comments added significance among conservative activists.

SAVE Act becomes loyalty test

The dispute shows how the SAVE America Act has become more than a policy debate: it is increasingly viewed by many grassroots conservatives as a test of Republican leadership.

Presler's pledge to oppose Thune in a future primary illustrates how influential activists are seeking to leverage their organizing networks to shape the party's direction beyond Washington.

Whether the legislation advances or stalls, the public warning signals that the battle over election policy is now extending beyond Capitol Hill, with grassroots organizers openly threatening political consequences for the GOP's highest-ranking Senate leaders.
