WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden faced people’s wrath online after insisting that he 'can’t think of one' reason presidents should receive absolute immunity from prosecution as former President Donald Trump pushes for the courts to grant him immunity.

The 81-year-old POTUS, who is seeking re-election in 2024, made the comment in response to a reporter’s question regarding Trump’s case before departing the White House for Camp David, according to Bloomberg.

On Friday, the Supreme Court declined to expedite its ruling in Trump's appeal about immunity. The judges' decision impeded the efforts of federal prosecutors to begin Trump's trial on allegations pertaining to his endeavors to rig the 2020 election.

The 77-year-old front-runner for the GOP nomination argues he was acting within his official duties during the lead-up to the Jan 6, 2021 riot, in which his supporters violently stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to prevent lawmakers from certifying Biden’s victory.

The trial is slated to start on March 4, and in order to guarantee that date, Special Counsel Jack Smith attempted to expedite the case to the highest court in the nation.

Biden campaign’s attack on Joe Biden

Using Trump's actions leading up to January 6 and his threats to wreak revenge on his political rivals, Biden's campaign circulated a memo last week portraying Trump as a grave danger to US democracy, according to Bloomberg.

The campaign previously accused Trump of 'parroting Adolf Hitler' in the wake of remarks in which Trump said immigrants were 'poisoning the blood of our country'.

At a campaign rally in Durham, Trump offered praise for authoritarian world leaders and quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin to attack President Biden.

Addressing Trump’s comments, Biden-Harris campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa released a statement saying “Tonight, Donald Trump channeled his role models as he parroted Adolf Hitler, praised Kim Jong Un, and quoted Vladimir Putin while running for president on a promise to rule as a dictator and threaten American democracy.”

“Trump is not shying away from his plan to lock up millions of people into detention camps and continues to lie about that time when Joe Biden obliterated him by over 7 million votes three years ago,” the statement added.

Internet reacts to Joe Biden’s remarks

Biden’s remarks have garnered immense social media attention, with users slamming him for claiming that he ‘can’t think of one’ reason for total presidential immunity.

“Good, those words will come back to haunt him,” one user said. “As Biden has been using National Security to conceal his own “immunity” that’s a laughable comment,” a second user alleged.

“He can’t think of one…but I am sure that he can think of millions…” the third user mocked while the fourth one said “Good! May whatever haunting this causes him be also cause for joy in his heart!”

“When one is in such a situation as now Trump is probably he may change his mind will say what exactly Trump saying now,” the fifth user suggested.

“🤣 well the main one is, he would LOSE! He is a terrible president who has set this country back,” one more laughed.
