Three-month-old boy killed by his family’s pet wolf in Alabama, disclose officials
CHELSEA, ALABAMA: A three-month-old boy in Chelsea, Alabama was killed by his family's pet wolf. The police are now looking into the incident.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, they were called to a Chelsea, Alabama home on Thursday, November 30, after there were reports of a child being attacked by an animal.
'Wolf-hybrid' animal was kept as a pet
When authorities and animal control officers arrived at the scene, the baby was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Police believe the animal may have caused the child's injuries, which led to the child's death after they arrived at the hospital.
The Sheriff's Office stated that the the 'wolf-hybrid' creature was kept by the family as a pet. At the request of law enforcement, a veterinarian euthanized the animal on the spot.
'Wolf-dog' reportedly played with victim child
Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans told the New York Post, "It appears that the wolf or wolf-dog picked up the child that was down on the floor and started playing with it, and unfortunately killed the baby."
"The parents did try to get the baby from the wolf, but it was too late," she added.
Other children were in the house, according to Wayne Morris, a spokesman for the City of Chelsea, who spoke to WBRC.
According to the officers, the animal was taken to the Alabama State Diagnostics Laboratory in Auburn for additional scrutiny and research.
Mayor Tony Picklesimer of Chelsea stated: "It's been confirmed that one of our children here in Chelsea was killed by an exotic family pet and succumbed to its injuries yesterday afternoon after being taken to the hospital by Chelsea Fire & Rescue."
Incident under investigation
Mayor Tony Picklesimer of Chelsea added, "We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate and tragic event and lift up the family and all those affected with our deepest prayers and thoughts."
Officials from the Sheriff's Office stated that the incident is still being investigated, as reported by DailyMail.
