Tiger Woods' son Charlie qualifies for first USGA championship at 15 with 1-under 71
OAKLAND HILL, MICHIGAN: Tiger Woods is proud as his teenage son shot a 1-under 71, finishing first in the US Junior Amateur Qualifier on Wednesday, June 19, as per People.
Now Tiger's 15-year-old son, Charlie, is on his way to his first United States Golf Association (USGA) championship after finishing first among the qualifiers for the US Junior Amateur at the Eagle Trace Golf Club qualifier in Coral Springs, Florida.
Tiger Woods' son Charlie Woods qualifies for First USGA Championship
Charlie, who helped The Benjamin School win a Florida high school state title last fall, said this USGA event means the world to him.
“The USGA means a lot to me,” he said, adding, “I want to win USGA championships and hopefully one day the US Open.”
Charlie has been playing golf more often this year as he starts to establish himself in the sport that his 48-year-old father has largely defined and dominated for the past thirty years. Despite a tough start to his round, with bogeys on his first two holes and double bogeys later, Charlie finished at 1-under 71 to qualify for the event.
But from there, he recorded five birdies to spring to the top of the leaderboard. He was one of four from his qualifier to make the championship.
"I didn’t play great my first two holes, but I played really good for the last 16,” Woods said, adding, “I just told myself not to make any more bogeys or doubles and I took advantage of some nice birdie looks when I had them.”
