WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) regretted calling Vice President Kamala Harris a DEI — diversity, equity, and inclusion — hire, but he also doubled down on his comments.

In a social media post on July 22, Burchett had called Harris a “DEI vice president”. He is of course not the first Republican to do so.

Ever since Joe Biden backed out from the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Harris, the GOP has repeatedly taken shots at the Vice President, calling her a "DEI hire".

Tim Burchett calls Biden administration ‘incompetent’

Tim Burchett had tweeted, “The incompetency level is at an all-time high in Washington. The media propped up this president, lied to the American people for three years, and then dumped him for our DEI vice president.”

However, later on SiriusXM’s ‘The Laura Coates Show,’ as reported by The Hill, Burchett told Laura Coates, “Do I wish I’d said it? No, but it was the truth.”

Joe Biden endorses Kamala Harris as new Democratic presidential nominee

Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 20204 presidential race via a letter that read, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Earlier, he had tweeted about his decision to endore Kamala Harris.

"My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made."

"Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this," he posted.

Internet reacts to Tim Burchett's 'DEI Vice President' attack on Kamala Harris

Tim Burchett’s latest statement against Kamala Harris subjected him to criticism on social media.

A critic commented on X, “This focus on DEI is just ignorant. It will not serve the perpetrators well, People are just people, irrespective of skin color - Stop it!!”

The second critic said, “It's a GOP thing.”

The third one shared, “Black folk know they have to be at least “10” times better than those that disparage them. The insecurity is a sign they are afraid of losing their long list of entitlement. Look!!”

The fourth one commented, “So he doesn’t really regret it.”

The fifth one stated, “So the Republican racist comment apology tour is off to a good start.”

A person on Facebook said, “IT isn't the truth. She was an elected Senator with two degrees. She is far more qualified than Trump. Burchett is just showing his racism and misogyny.”

“Burchett just can't hide his racism. It's bone-deep. And by the way, DEI produces some mighty successful people. We should facilitate more of it,” another one shared.

The third one commented, “Like this old guy knows anything about what truth is as a member of the GOP in Tennessee and a devout Christian lol more like he’s an expert in what isn’t the truth.”
