ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential pick, was booed by University of Michigan fans on Saturday, September 28, when his motorcade arrived at the Wolverines' game against Minnesota, causing them to wait in the rain.

Fans at the stadium also chanted "Tampon Tim" at Walz, a jab at a law he signed in Minnesota providing free tampons in schools, including boys' restrooms, per the New York Post.

The booing took place after Tim Walz's security detail made Michigan fans wait up to 30 minutes in the rain before they were allowed to enter the stadium, a moment captured in a TikTok video.

Walz, who has often boasted about his time coaching high school football on the campaign trail, ran onto the field to meet with the team’s head coach, Sherrone Moore, but was unable to reach him. Instead, he settled for a hug from the Minnesota Golden Gophers mascot.

Walz’s visit to the stadium may be his final major campaign appearance ahead of the upcoming vice presidential debate against JD Vance. He is set to travel to northern Michigan for final debate preparations before the face-off, according to a source who informed the Associated Press.

Democratic Rep Debbie Dingell of Michigan told reporters, "No one is winning this state right now. We are a purple state. Donald Trump hasn’t won this state and Kamala Harris hasn’t won this state."

Before the game, Walz posted, "A little rain can't keep us from the big Michigan-Minnesota game! And it's not gonna stop these students from making sure that everyone on their campus is registered to vote."

The Democratic vice presidential pick faced more boos from the crowd as he left the stadium, with one fan shouting, "Get out of here."

Tim Walz fights nerves heading into vice presidential debate

Tim Walz expressed that he feels just as nervous about facing JD Vance as he did in August when he cautioned Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris during his running mate interview that he was not a strong debater, per CNN.

Walz continually reflected on his worries about disappointing Harris while speaking with aides who have gathered around him in Minnesota, along with other supporters.

Many top campaign staffers and others who have been in contact with the governor and his team noted that Walz does not want GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump to win and hopes Harris does not feel she made the wrong choice.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar said, "He’s a strong person. He’s just not a lawyer-debater type. It’s not like he was dreaming of debates when he was in first grade."

According to those who have been speaking with Walz, the Democratic vice presidential pick is confident in Harris' vision but worries that he won't present his case as effectively as necessary.
