Tim Walz offers 'controversial' opinion about cheeseburgers on 'SubwayTakes'

'SubwayTakes,' a web series created by comedian Kareem Rahma, is known for its short and humorous interviews with subway riders in New York City, often exploring polarizing or unconventional opinions.

In these bite-sized segments, which typically last less than two minutes, Rahma delves into the quirky thoughts and beliefs of everyday people. However, this time, it was a politician in the hot seat, and the result was pure internet gold.

In the episode that aired on Tuesday, August 27, Rahma sat down with Governor Walz, who has recently been in the national spotlight as the running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris.

The two engaged in light-hearted banter about various topics, but it was Walz's stance on cheeseburgers that stole the show.

During the interview, Rahma posed a seemingly simple yet surprisingly divisive question: "And you believe that cheese belongs on the inside of the burger?" Walz, without hesitation, responded, "I know this is very controversial for folks, but, I do believe it should be inside."

Rahma's comparison of his ideal burger to a "hot chocolate molten lava cake except beef and cheese" was both amusing and intriguing.

Walz, clearly entertained by the analogy, quipped back, "He knows his Minnesota well," drawing laughter from Rahma and adding to the light-hearted tone of the exchange.

This seemingly trivial opinion quickly took on a life of its own on social media. The video clip, posted on X (formerly Twitter), quickly went viral, amassing nearly 25,000 views by Tuesday afternoon.

On Instagram, the clip resonated even more, with over 100,000 people engaging with the post.

Tim Walz's interview on 'SubwayTakes' makes refreshing departure from scripted interviews

Interestingly, the interview steered clear of any political discourse, a stark contrast to the typical content involving politicians. Instead, the discussion meandered through other light-hearted topics, such as Walz's thoughts on homeownership.

The governor voiced his opinion on gutters, labeling them as the most neglected aspect of maintaining a home.

He humorously emphasized how overlooking gutter maintenance can lead to significant problems down the line—a sentiment that many homeowners likely found relatable.

The pair even broke into a spontaneous rendition of the jingle for Menards, a well-known home improvement store chain in the Midwest.

The casual, almost whimsical nature of the conversation was a refreshing departure from the often rigid and scripted interviews that dominate the political landscape.

The timing of this laid-back interaction is notable, as it comes on the heels of increased scrutiny directed at Walz's running mate, Harris.

Harris has faced criticism for her limited media appearances since the Democratic National Convention.

In contrast, former president Donald Trump has been far more accessible to the media, participating in several interviews, including a lengthy sit-down with former Navy SEAL and CIA contractor Shawn Ryan.

During that interview, Trump discussed a wide range of topics, from his plans if re-elected to his views on artificial intelligence and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
