The prop, which was broken off from the ship's first-class lounge door, was one of several 'Titanic' relic pieces up for auction. In addition, purchases have been made for the ship's helm wheel, engine room speed register, interior furnishings, ceiling chandelier, and emergency fire axe box.

Along with other movie attire, Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack Dawson outfit and the chiffon dress of Kate Winslet's Rose DeWitt Bukater were on sale too. The door frame alone sold for more than iconic items from Indiana 'Jones: Temple of Doom' which brought in $525,000 for Harrison Ford’s whip and $100,000 for three Sankara stones.

Tobey McGuire's black outfit from 'Spider-Man 3' and Jack Nicholson's ax from 'The Shining' both brought in $125,000 each, while Bill Murray's Kingpin bowling ball brought in $350,000.

As per Rolling Stone, director Cameron permanently disproved the widely held belief that Jack and Rose may have survived on the auctioned door during 'Titanic's 25th-anniversary celebration in 2023.

The director of the documentary 'Titanic: 25 Years Later' presented findings from a scientific investigation to stunt coordinators and hypothermia specialists.

Cameron said, "He got into a place where if we projected that out, he just might’ve made it until the lifeboat got there. Jack might’ve lived, but there’s a lot of variables,” before adding, “I think his thought process was, ‘I’m not going to do one thing that jeopardized her,’ and that’s 100 percent in character.”

Additionally, during an appearance on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast in 2022, Winslet picked her side in the debate and said, “I have to be honest. I actually don’t believe that we would have survived if we had both gotten on that door. I think he would have fit, but it would have tipped and it would not have been a sustainable idea. Yes, he could have fit on that door, but it would not have stayed afloat. It wouldn’t.”

Internet reacts as famous door that saved Kate Winslet in 'Titanic' sold at auction

Internet users have always debated the fact of how DiCaprio's character Jack Dawson could have been saved as he could have easily fit on the door along with Winslet's character.

An Instagram user wrote, "I hope that person puts it in a pool and proves two people could have fit on the door."

Another user asked, "The one Jack could've fit on?" One wrote, "Whoever bought it better as hell take a picture of 2 people comfortably laying on it."

One person asked, "They know it's a movie prop right?" Another wrote, "Calling it right now, somebody is going to test to see if that door can be buoyant enough for two people."

One individual said, "Now prove there was room for more than one person on it."

Another joked, "Kate should buy it and give it to Leo." While one person wrote, "There was room for 2."
