NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, on Saturday, May 2 turned a Fox News interview into a pointed political rebuke, physically covering his eyes while blasting former President Barack Obama over his response to the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Blanche said he was stunned that Obama would suggest investigators still don’t know the motive behind the attack, arguing the evidence already tells a very different story.

Todd Blanche says Barack Obama is 'literally just covering his eyes'

Appearing on Fox News, Blanche acted out his frustration mid-interview, placing his hands over his face as he criticized Obama’s remarks.

“It’s pretty incredible that a leader, a former leader like President Obama would say that,” Blanche said.

“Actually, literally just closing his eyes to what we know is happening.” He then pointed to what investigators say is already included in the federal complaint.

“That is so disappointing to say that when we know, from just the little bit of evidence that we’ve done even just what’s charged in the complaint, not the rest of the evidence that we’ve uncovered since then, that we know why President Trump was allegedly targeted by this individual,” he added.

Blanche’s comments marked one of the sharpest public responses yet from the Trump administration following the attack.

Barack Obama urges caution as probe unfolds

Blanche’s criticism came after Obama posted on social media in the hours following the shooting, writing, “Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it’s incumbent upon all of us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy.”

Obama also praised the Secret Service response, calling it “a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice” of federal agents, and said he was thankful the wounded officer was expected to recover.

The post triggered immediate pushback from several Trump allies who argued investigators had already identified a political motive.

The shooting unfolded outside the Washington Hilton last weekend while President Donald Trump, cabinet officials, lawmakers, and journalists were attending the annual dinner.

Authorities say 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen allegedly tried to breach the security perimeter while armed, triggering gunfire and a rapid evacuation of top officials.

A Secret Service officer was struck in the chest but was protected by a ballistic vest and later released.

Federal investigators say Allen was taken into custody at the scene and now faces charges including attempted assassination of the president and firearms-related offenses.

Investigators also believe Trump administration officials were among the intended targets.
