WASHINGTON, DC: White House border czar Tom Homan declared that there are no limits to President Donald Trump’s authority when it comes to safeguarding the nation.

This assertion followed Trump’s dramatic announcement, invoking Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act to seize control of the city’s Metropolitan Police Department.

Alongside the power grab, Trump revealed plans to deploy 800 National Guard troops to the capital, citing surging crime. He warned that similar actions could be coming to other major cities led by Democrats.

Tom Homan delivers warning about safety in DC

On Wednesday, August 13, Tom Homan addressed reporters outside the White House and delivered a stark warning about safety in Washington, DC.

When asked if he would walk the city’s streets at night, Homan replied, “DC is a dangerous place. I don’t go on the streets at night without a gun.”

He accused Democratic leaders of downplaying the issue, adding, “And, you know, it’s dangerous. I mean, we see the crime in DC, and you’ve got the Democrats saying that crime isn’t that bad. Come on. You walk through the streets of DC. It’s not safe to walk the streets at night here.”

Homan insisted that the capital should reflect national strength and pride. “Our capital should be a showpiece. And President Trump, he’s gonna make sure not only is it safe, it’s a showpiece for the whole world,” he said. “And that’s the right thing to do for the greatest nation on Earth.”

When a reporter asked about the 30-day limit imposed by Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act, unless extended by Congress, she questioned whether that period would be enough. Homan answered, “President Trump doesn’t have a limitation on his authority to make this country safe again. There’s no limitation on that.”

Homan then ended the press conference, and reporters did not follow up with additional questions.

Tom Homan faces backlash online over comments on Donald Trump's limitations

A video of Tom Homan claiming that President Donald Trump faces “no limitations” in his efforts to safeguard the nation quickly went viral, sparking a wave of online backlash. Hundreds of users on X weighed in, with many challenging the accuracy and legality of Homan’s assertion.

One user responded bluntly: “FALSE. Trump is not the judge, jury and executioner. Trump, like any President, has limitations on his ability to single-handedly ensure the country's “safety”, DUE to our system of 'checks and balances.'”

Another commenter added, “I'm sure there are. I want crime reduced. And I also want presidential power limited appropriately.”

A third wrote, “Histories clear, Homan-unchecked power doesn't bring safety, it brings tyranny.”

Others echoed similar concerns. “Actually, there is. Homan can make false statements if he likes, but asserting something doesn't make it true.”

Another commented, “Homan's statement is legally inaccurate and constitutionally misleading.”

One user said, “Wrong. The constitution states the limits. It does not care what excuses the President presents.”

Others called out what they saw as a lack of basic civic understanding. “Homan needs to read the Constitution,” one person advised.

Another, more pointedly, wrote, “These clowns need to learn how to read some Law Books."

During a press conference on Monday, August 11, Trump declared “Liberation Day” for Washington, DC, and claimed the city had fallen into chaos and lawlessness.

He cited a public safety emergency and invoked Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act to seize control of the Metropolitan Police Department.

He deployed 800 National Guard troops to the capital and bypassed both the city’s mayor and congressional leaders.

Trump expanded his efforts beyond local policing. He ordered federal agencies, including the FBI, DEA, and others, to conduct night patrols and increase their visibility across the city.

He also launched an aggressive campaign to dismantle homeless encampments, framing their removal as essential to restoring law and order.

Trump warned that his administration would consider similar federal interventions in cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago if local leaders failed to tackle rising crime and public disorder.
