Tony Hawk shares heartfelt message about Kurt Cobain and fans still can't believe they're related

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tony Hawk, who shared a special relationship with the late Kurt Cobain, posted an emotional message for him over the weekend.

Taking to his Instagram Story, the skateboarding legend, who is also a Nirvana fan, remembered the icon who died in April 1994 at the age of 27, CNN reported.

The 56-year-old posted a photo of a ticket stub, which cost him only $10, from a Nirvana concert that he attended in Houston, Texas, in October 1991.

In his Story, Hawk Tony recalled, "It was as transformative as live music can possibly be. We all experienced something rare and powerful that night. The world would never be the same."

His poignant post did not end there as he mentioned, "I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become, meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild."

Tony's son Riley Hawk has been married to Nirvana frontman’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, since 2023.

The couple welcomed their first child, son Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, on September 17, 2024. Frances, whom Kurt welcomed with his wife Courtney Love in August 1992, was just 19 months old when the legendary musician died.

Frances Bean Cobain, 32, posted an emotional message for her father on her Instagram in April last year.

She began, "30 years ago, my dad’s life ended. The 2nd & 3rd photo capture the last time we were together while he was still alive." 

She continued, "His mom Wendy would often press my hands to her cheeks & say, with a lulling sadness, ‘you have his hands’. She would breathe them in as if it were her only chance to hold him just a little bit closer, frozen in time."

The visual artist and model further shared that in the last three decades, her "ideas around loss have been in a continuous state of metamorphosing. The biggest lesson learned through grieving for almost as long as I’ve been conscious, is that it serves a purpose."

"I wish I could’ve known my Dad. I wish I knew the cadence of his voice, how he liked his coffee or the way it felt to be tucked in after a bedtime story," Frances expressed.

She concluded, "He gifted me a lesson in death that can only come through the LIVED experience of losing someone. It’s the gift of knowing for certain, when we love ourselves & those around us with compassion, with openness, with grace, the more meaningful our time here inherently becomes."

Tony Hawk's post about Kurt Cobain had netizens saying how lucky was it for Ronin to have them as grandfathers. 

One wrote, "I am sobbing at Tony Hawk posting about his grandchild who is also Kurt Cobain's grandchild," and another said, "I smile thinking that Kurt Cobain and Tony Hawk ended up being family."

"Wild fact and I too wish Kurt was still here. Imagine being a kid and saying my grandpas are the Tony Hawk and Kurt Cobain," a person wrote, while someone else added, "Kurt Cobain’s daughter and Tony Hawk’s son had a kid together??? Imagine your grandfathers are Kurt Cobain and Tony Hawk LMFAO that is BALLLLIN."

"So there is a kid out there whose grandpa’s are Tony Hawk and Kurt Cobain. That is wild," read another comment. 

"Imagine your grandfathers are Tony Hawk and Kurt Cobain that’s so insane," one more expressed, while another person added, "Such a beautiful connection legacy living on in the coolest way!"

An individual on TikTok commented, as per Unilad, "Well dang, not me ugly crying over here. OUR GRANDCHILD. Imagine being at that show and having no clue that you would share the same grandchild years later. Wow."

One more wrote, "Not this making me cry. So glad Frances found this love and family."
