Trump administration claims victory as oil traffic through Strait of Hormuz nears normal levels

WASHINGTON, D.C.: The Trump administration is claiming a major strategic victory over the Islamic Republic of Iran after commercial oil shipments through the critical Strait of Hormuz surged back toward normal operating capacity on Sunday.

The sudden rebound in commercial vessel traffic forcefully undermines Tehran's explicit threat to shutter the strategic waterway, significantly shifting the balance of power just as senior American and Iranian officials launch intense, face-to-face bilateral talks in Switzerland.

The logistical breakthrough follows a tense weekend standoff that began when hardline commanders in Tehran signaled an immediate maritime embargo in response to ongoing border clashes between Israel and Hezbollah. Rather than altering its diplomatic baseline, the White House deployed an aggressive naval monitoring layout to systematically escort commercial fleets through the southern lanes of the channel.

Energy Department logs confirm that transit numbers climbed to 67 active vessels on Saturday, up from 55 on Friday. This successful bypass of Iranian non-cooperation allows Vice President JD Vance to enter the Bürgenstock nuclear summit with maximum structural leverage, effectively demonstrating that the regime's premier economic card has been neutralized.

Administration highlights unilateral transit normalization

"Flows of oil and natural gas through the strait have already returned to normal, and they will continue that way," Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced during a broadcast interview on ABC’s This Week.

Wright asserted that the rapid recovery of the shipping lane, executed entirely without cooperation from Iran, is the exact leverage President Trump used to force the regime back to the negotiating table.

While acknowledging that the pre-emptive naval campaign launched on February 28 has kept domestic pump prices elevated at a national average of $3.93 per gallon, Wright maintained that the executive branch possessed the courage to absorb short-term commercial friction to secure long-term energy independence.

Executive issues severe allied enforcement warnings

The maritime victory coincides with severe enforcement warnings issued directly from the White House. While Vance utilizes the 60-day window established under the newly published 14-point memorandum to demand that Iranian Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf reinstate UN atomic inspectors, Trump is maintaining an uncompromising military posture.

Writing on Truth Social, the president issued an explicit ultimatum to the Iranian state apparatus, demanding an immediate halt to all proxy actions along the Lebanese border.

Trump warned that the Pentagon preserves total operational readiness to resume its intensive aerial bombardment campaign, vowing to hit the regime significantly harder than previous campaigns if external forces continue to cause disruption to the regional truce.
