Trump-aligned podcaster’s tone shift signals crack in core base: ‘People feel betrayed’
WASHINGTON, DC: Once-Trump-aligned podcasts, which are often credited with building narrative and ground support for Trump among the conservative base, are now questioning Trump over Iran and his ‘broken promises.'
From Joe Rogan to Theo Von, key podcasters are arguing that broken campaign promises may have hurtful consequences for Trump. Trump appeared on numerous podcasts in the days leading up to the 2024 presidential elections, prompting many to call it a "podcast election," which he won.
MAGA influencers are warning Trump
The podcasters who once convinced American youth to support Trump are now warning the POTUS about his policies and saying that the president has broken his campaign promises.
A recent write-up by Semafor highlights the growing dissent and shifting trend among conservative influencers who campaigned for Trump and played a key role in his 2024 win.
The piece headlined, ‘Baffling: Trump’s podcaster problem runs deep,' notes that while Joe Rogan joined President Trump for the signing of an executive order to further the cause of psychedelic therapy research, other issues remain in play.
"But even if the White House’s efforts to court Rogan proved successful, Trump has more work to do," Semafor wrote. "Of the 14 longform ‘bro’ podcasts Trump appeared on during his 2024 presidential campaign, eight of the hosts have questioned or criticized the war, while just two have endorsed it."
Trump voters feel betrayed by Iran war
A long-form podcaster who enjoys a great deal of popularity among the conservative section, Joe Rogan, criticized Trump for entering into a war with Iran.
"Well, it just seems so insane based on what he ran on," Rogan said in March. "I mean, this is why a lot of people feel betrayed, right? He ran on ‘no more wars’ and ‘these stupid senseless wars,’ and then we have one that we can't even really clearly define why we did it."
Rogan lacked firm support for ICE operations. Expressing a mixed view on ICE raids, Rogan earlier said that he understands both for and against points when it comes to how ICE was carrying out its job.
However, he supported the ICE raid, saying that it was important to secure the border, which democrats failed to do.
Joe Rogan blames Israel for pressuring Trump into war
Days after joining Trump at the White House for the signing of the executive order to speed up the research work into psychedelics, Rogan blamed Israel for pressuring Trump into war.
"Netanyahu kept visiting the White House. You think it's a coincidence that Netanyahu keeps visiting the White House and then eventually they decide to give in and start bombing?" Rogan asked.
Trump will give the country back to Democrats
Besides, comedian Dave Smith also called out Trump over the Iran war despite supporting him in the 2024 election. Smith is a vocal critic of Israel’s influence on America.
"After '24, this coalition came together where Donald Trump, for the first time ever, wins the popular vote, wins every single swing state and really, more remarkably, won the youth and the culture," Smith said in an interview with Rogan last month.
"That whole coalition has been destroyed over this war," he said. "And now he's going to hand the country right back over to these Democrats, whom we've been fighting so hard. All for what? All for a war that Netanyahu wanted?"
Theo Von condemns Trump over Iran war
Comedian Theo Von, who interviewed Trump before the 2024 election and is often dubbed as Trump’s favourite podcaster, has been criticizing Trump over the Iran war.
Von condemned Trump’s threat on Easter to wipe out Iranian civilization.
"On Easter, that’s unbelievable. You know when people are hoping for something new literally on the day when people are hoping and are believing with their hearts as much as they can and are celebrating something new, a rebirth, a resurrection, a possibility. To write that is it's diabolical. It's insane," he said.
Von alleged that Trump was compromised by Iran.
