WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump has launched a new international oversight body, the “Board of Peace", to support his peace plan for Israel and Gaza.

He announced that he will lead the board, claiming global leaders urged him to take on the role. Trump also named former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair as a potential member, with more distinguished figures expected to join soon.

Trump announces establishment of 'Board of Peace'

On Monday, September 29, President Donald Trump announced the establishment of a new international body called the “Board of Peace,” which he said would be led by "a gentleman known as President Donald J Trump of the United States.”

During a press conference unveiling his peace proposal for Israel and Gaza, Trump explained at the timestamp 10:45, “To ensure the success of this effort, my plan calls for the creation of a new international oversight body. The Board of Peace, we call it. The Board of Peace. Sort of a beautiful name."

He clarified that leading the board was not his idea. “The Board of Peace which will be headed – not at my request, believe me. I’m very busy, but we have to make sure this works. The leaders of the Arab world, Israel, and everybody involved asked me to do this, so it’ll be headed by a gentleman known as President Donald J Trump of the United States.”

Trump stressed his commitment to the initiative, saying, “That’s what I want, is some extra work to do, but it’s so important that I’m willing to do it, and we’ll do it right, and we’re gonna put leaders from other countries on, leaders that are very distinguished leaders, and we’ll have a board."

He went on to mention that former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair had expressed interest in joining. “A good man, a very good man,” Trump said. He added that more names would be announced in the coming days, and that it would be “quite the board.”

Trump also issued a warning that if Hamas does not accept his 20-point peace plan, he would give his “full backing” to Israel, allowing it to operate in Gaza without restrictions.
