MOUNT POCONO, PENNSYLVANIA: A new national poll revealed that President Donald Trump's approval was on the rise, hours before his speech on the economy and affordability, mainly due to soaring support by Republicans.

His approval rating in a survey conducted between December 3 to 8 and released on Tuesday, December 9, stood at 41 percent, with 57 percent disapproving. That's an improvement from mid-November, when the POTUS stood at 38-60 percent approval/disapproval in the earlier national poll.

Trump's approval rating on dealing with cost of living improves

President Trump's focus on lowering prices helped boost him and Republicans to win in 2024, as the GOP won back the White House and Senate.

However, Democrats are motivated after decisive wins in November in the 2025 elections and in their over-performance last week in a special congressional election in Tennessee. They slammed Republicans over affordability as prices remained high in 2025.

Moreover, the most recent Labor Department report from September 2025 showed that inflation increased 3 percent from 2024, up slightly from 2.9 percent in August.

Despite the fight against high prices is one of Trump's weakest polling issues, the new survey shows his approval on dealing with the cost of living increased from 26 percent in November to 31 percent now.

The Reuters/Ipsos survey questioned 4,434 respondents nationwide and had an overall sampling error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Trump is engaged in combating high prices

Though Donald Trump has described the Democrats' focus on affordability as a "hoax", he has become more engaged in combating high prices recently, as the POTUS scaled back some of his tariffs and promised to lower high food prices.

The President's approval rating stood at 41 percent in the most recent Fox News national poll, conducted in mid-November. That's the lowest approval for Trump during his second term in the White House.

Three-quarters of the people questioned during the survey viewed the economy negatively. Voters say Trump was more responsible for the current economy than former President Joe Biden, as per the poll.

Interestingly, Trump's overall approval rating has been negative in most national polls conducted since mid-October. It is mainly due to the President's approval ratings on the economy.

During an interview with Politico ahead of his speech on Tuesday, the POTUS was asked what grade he would give the economy, and Trump responded, "A-plus-plus-plus-plus-plus."

However, Democratic Lt Governor Austin Davis of Pennsylvania spoke to reporters on Tuesday and said that "unfortunately, President Trump refuses to see how millions of Americans are struggling with skyrocketing costs for health care, for food and more, just basic necessities."

"He thinks what regular Americans are going through is just a ‘con job,’ using his term," the Lt Governor of Pennsylvania added.
