WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump's campaign reinstated Corey Lewandowski as it seeks to regain footing against Vice President Kamala Harris' neck-to-neck competition.

Lewandowski, the 2016 Trump campaign manager, would join senior leadership alongside new hires Alex Pfeiffer and Alex Bruesewitz, former officials at MAGA Inc, according to Politico

The new staffing changes came as the GOP presidential nominee trailed behind Harris in fundraising and swing state polls. Some Republicans are nervous about his campaign, noting his difficulty in holding a consistent strategy against the Democratic rival.

Lewandowski was fired from the Trump campaign in June 2016 in his race against Hillary Clinton.

Despite Corey Lewandowski's ouster from the leading position in a Pro-Trump super PAC in 2021 after he was accused of making unwanted sexual advances, the 2024 campaign considered him a "veteran" of previous campaigns.

"As we head into the home stretch of this election, we are continuing to add to our impressive campaign team," said the former president's co-campaign managers, Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita.

"Corey Lewandowski, Taylor Budowich, Alex Pfeiffer, Alex Bruesewitz, and Tim Murtaugh are all veterans of prior Trump campaigns and their unmatched experience will help President Trump prosecute the case against Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, the most radical ticket in American history," they added in the statement.

The Trump team had distanced itself from Lewandowski despite their longtime association in 2021 after Trashelle Odom, the wife of a donor, accused him of making unwanted sexual advances at a charity dinner in Las Vegas.

At his Bedminster press conference on Thursday, August 15, Trump responded to the team shakeup, saying, "Susie is fantastic, as you know. And Chris is fantastic. They are leading it," referring to his co-campaign managers. He added that Lewandowski would be a "personal envoy, or he'll be at some level."

Major controversies of Corey Lewandowski

Corey Lewandowski has been at the center of other controversies besides the sexual advance allegations.

Though he was charged with misdemeanor battery over his behavior towards Trashelle Odom, the Trump adviser struck a deal in 2022 to complete eight hours of impulse control counseling, 50 hours of community service, and remain trouble-free for a year.

In 2016, Lewandowski faced battery charges for forcefully grabbing Breitbart News reporter Michelle Fields' arm at a Trump campaign event. However, the case did not proceed further due to a lack of evidence.

In 2018, he drew backlash for mocking an immigrant child with Down Syndrome during a Fox News interview. He made the disparaging comments on 'The Story With Martha MacCallum,' interrupting Zac Petkanas, a Democratic strategist who was another guest.

"I read today about a 10-year-old girl with Down Syndrome who was taken from her mother and put in a cage," Petkanas said but was cut off by Lewandowski, who responded with sarcasm, "Womp, womp."

Internet mocks Donald Trump for reinstating Corey Lewandowski to his campaign team

The addition of the once-fired Corey Lewandowski to Donald Trump's campaign sparked mockery against the former president. Netizens hilariously likened the rehiring to pouring gasoline into a dumpster fire.

"Always scraping the bottom of the barrel," a user wrote.

"This is the best they could find?? Makes you wonder if Trump actually paid people for doing their jobs he wouldn’t have to hire the bottom of the barrel now!!" remarked another.

"Trump recycled his stump speeches from 2019, now he's hiring the same people that lost him the popular vote, except for the ones still in prison, or on parole, of course, it's hard to get them permission to leave the state..." read a response.

"Another hand to help bail out the sinking ship!!!" added another user.

"The fact that Trump rehired Corey Lewandowski, with only 82 days until Election Day, is 100% proof that Trump is desperate to flip his campaign strategy around… lol," someone else tweeted.

"It doesn’t solve the biggest issue with the campaign. Trump," an individual quipped.

"Not a surprise! The Trump campaign requires all top advisors to submit the mugshot of their latest arrest, so Mr. Lewandowski had a huge advantage during the interview process," another user added.

"This is the 'Let Trump be Trump' Pivot," read one remark.

"Our dumpster fire is out of control! Let’s try to put it out with gasoline and oily rags!" read another hilarious response.
