NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former president Donald Trump has once again found himself at the center of controversy after making unusual claims during a speech at Trump Tower on September 26.

In his remarks, Trump suggested that migrants have direct access to Vice President Kamala Harris through a phone app, a statement that has left many puzzled and led to a wave of mockery online, as per The Independent.

The comments were made as part of Trump's ongoing effort to criticize the Biden administration's handling of the immigration crisis.

Donald Trump claims phone application is allowing migrants to schedule appointments

During his speech, Donald Trump alleged that a new phone application is allowing migrants to schedule appointments for release into the US, with Vice President Kamala Harris supposedly overseeing the process.

He claimed, "In addition through her phone app, something totally new now, it’s a phone app for migrants, where migrants call in. She’s allowed them to press a button and schedule an appointment to be released into the interior of our country."

This was not an isolated statement. A few days earlier, Trump had posted a similar claim on his Truth Social platform, vowing to dismantle what he describes as a phone application developed under President Joe Biden and Harris' administration to facilitate illegal immigration, according to Newsweek.

In his post, Trump stated: "As President I will immediately end the migrant invasion of America. We will stop all migrant flights, end all illegal entries, terminate the Kamala phone app for smuggling illegals (CBP One App), revoke deportation immunity, suspend refugee resettlement, and return Kamala's illegal migrants to their home countries (also known as remigration)."

Trump directly accused Harris of being involved in the creation of what he dramatically termed a "Phone App for Smuggling," a reference to the US Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) CBP One mobile app, launched in 2020.

The app, available for download on both Apple and Google Play stores, is designed to streamline access to various CBP services, including asylum appointments for migrants, which is likely the root of Trump’s misunderstanding.

According to the CBP website, "CBP One provides increased accessibility and transparency to some of CBP's most utilized services."

Despite this clear explanation, Trump's portrayal of the app has fueled his rhetoric about the Biden administration's supposed complicity in illegal immigration.

The CBP One app, launched under Trump’s own administration in 2020, is part of a broader effort by US Customs and Border Protection to manage border security while facilitating legitimate travel and trade.

It allows users to access services such as scheduling asylum appointments, a function that has existed for years as part of the legal immigration process.

However, Trump has twisted its purpose, claiming it’s a tool for "smuggling" migrants into the United States.

Another said, "He is saying words…the order of which and intended meaning are unclear."

"He is a macabre monster," wrote one person.
