WASHINGTON, DC: Hours before the Iran deadline ends, President Donald Trump, on April 7, Tuesday, indicated that the United States is in the middle of “heated negotiations” with Iran but refused to go into specifics during a brief exchange, even as questions swirl over a proposed diplomatic extension.

Fox News's Jacqui Heinruch spoke to Trump and confirmed details via a post on X.

POTUS confirms 'heated negotiations'

Fox News correspondent shared details of her short call with Trump, laying out exactly what the president said when pressed on both the Iran talks and Pakistan’s request for more time.

According to Heinrich, Trump declined to elaborate on the negotiations, saying, “I can't tell you, because right now we're in heated negotiations.”

He was also asked about Pakistan’s two-week extension request, but avoided taking a position, with Heinrich noting he “declined to weigh in on Pakistan’s 2 week deadline extension request, saying he’s about to be briefed fully on it.”

However, Trump did make a personal remark about Pakistan’s leadership, adding, “I can say this that I know him very well. He's a highly respected man, all over.”

The White House signaled that a response is pending.

Press Secretary said, “The President has been made been aware of the proposal, and a response will come.”

Pakistan urges pause to let diplomacy work

In a detailed public appeal, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for a temporary pause in hostilities to give negotiations space to succeed.

“Diplomatic efforts for peaceful settlement of the ongoing war in the Middle East are progressing steadily, strongly and powerfully with the potential to lead to substantive results in near future,” he wrote on X.

“To allow diplomacy to run its course, I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks,” Sharif added, while also urging Iran to cooperate.

“Pakistan, in all sincerity, requests the Iranian brothers to open Strait of Hormuz for a corresponding period of two weeks as a goodwill gesture.”

He further appealed to all sides to step back temporarily, saying, “We also urge all warring parties to observe a ceasefire everywhere for two weeks to allow diplomacy to achieve conclusive termination of war, in the interest of long-term peace and stability in the region.”
