NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump claimed the hush money case prosecution failed to call some key witnesses as the historic criminal trial nears its conclusion.

The Republican presumptive nominee missed the fact that his defense team could have easily summoned them to the stand.

Addressing reporters outside the Manhattan courtroom on Wednesday, May 29, after the first day of jury deliberations, Trump complained about the lack of witnesses that favored him, saying, "A lot of key witnesses were not called. Look at your list, look at the players, and you know who I'm talking about. You can take five or six of them. Why didn't they call those witnesses?" as reported by Mediaite.

Donald Trump claims the hush money prosecution didn't call certain witnesses because they would've been on his side

In the hush money trial, which began in mid-April, many witnesses took the stand to testify about Trump's apparent role in the hush money payment made to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.

The first witness was former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker, who played a significant role in the "catch-and-kill" scheme to bury negative stories about the White House hopeful.

Daniels and Trump's fixer-turned-foe, Michael Cohen, who paid the hush money on behalf of the real estate mogul, also testified against the defendant.

Trump, however, lashed out at the prosecution for not calling some witnesses who sided with him, claiming, "They didn't call them because they would've been on our side, and it's a shame, and in particular one witness who's now suffering gravely because of what's happened, because of the viciousness of these thugs."

The former president added, "They're vicious people, what they've done to that person, and you know who I'm talking about, and they didn't call him as a witness. They didn't call anybody as a witness, and all these people they could have called."

The most noted absence from the witness list was Allen Weisselberg, the former Chief Financial Officer of the Trump Organization.

Weisselberg, who is currently serving a five-month imprisonment at Rikers Island in New York in a separate civil case, was present when the former president reimbursed Cohen a $420,000 payment, according to the prosecution.

However, he was not called on the stand because of his perjury conviction related to the lies about inflating Trump's Manhattan penthouse's size in financial records. The prosecution cited the jury might not accept the testimony due to his lack of credibility.

The Trump Organization is charged with criminal tax fraud, falsifying business records, and filing false tax returns in a scheme to defraud the state. Former CFO Weisselberg, who is on his second day of testimony, has pleaded guilty to 15 criminal charges as part of the probe and is expected to testify against his former employer. During the hush money trial, Trump's attorneys summoned two witnesses: a paralegal who turned up phone records as evidence and Robert Costello, a lawyer who was apparently in talks with Cohen to represent him following the 2018 FBI search at his home and office.

Internet criticizes Donald Trump for complaining about the prosecution for not calling witnesses his lawyers could have called

One said, "His powers of gaslighting are waning because this just pathetic," and another remarked, "Don’t tell us . Should have had your attorney find all those imaginary key witnesses."

"The biggest key witness of all didn’t want to be called because he was too busy napping or reading off countless articles from his human wireless printer," added a person.

Someone else noted, "And your one of them. Your just a coward who was scared to take the stand in his own defense," highlighting how he didn't take the stand despite previously vowing to "tell the truth" during his testimony.

"No one cares Donald! That's between you and your lawyers. Y'all had your chance. Oh wait! you're whining to your cult again. My bad," expressed an individual.

One more stated, "Complain to your attorney Donald The reason he didn't call any is because he had no witnesses...at least ones that would help your case," and another person echoed, "This is ridiculous. Trump could’ve called the witnesses he’s now complaining were not called by the prosecutors. He’s counting on his audience to be ignorant about basic courtroom procedures."

"Such a ridiculous lie. He called have called Weisselberg. He could have taken the stand himself. He chose not to," opined a frustrated netizen.
