'Actions have consequences': Ex-Trump Org CFO Allen Weisselberg slammed as he's sentenced to five months in prison on perjury charges

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Former Chief Financial Officer of the Trump Organization, Allen Weisselberg, has been sentenced to five months in jail for admitting to lying during the New York civil fraud trial of former President Donald Trump.

According to the New York Post, the sentencing was carried out by Judge Laurie Peterson during a brief two-minute hearing at the Manhattan Criminal Court on Wednesday, April 10.

Weisselberg, who is 76 years old, did not make any statement during the hearing and was promptly taken into custody by court officers after being handcuffed.

He was also ordered to return to jail, having previously spent around 100 days in lockup for a tax fraud conviction related to accepting $1.7 million in company incentives off the books, including free rent on a Manhattan apartment and tuition payments for his grandchildren.

What did Allen Weisselberg confess in court to ease his sentence?

As part of a plea deal with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, the former CFO of The Trump Organization, Weisselberg, pleaded guilty to two counts of perjury last month.

Prosecutors stated that Weisselberg confessed to lying to the New York Attorney General, Letitia James, and her investigators during a deposition on May 12, 2023, and while testifying on October 10 during Trump's civil fraud case.

According to the plea deal, Weisselberg knowingly provided false information to the AG's Office when they were assessing the value of Trump's properties and assets on July 17, 2020.

He admitted that he was aware that former President Trump had falsely claimed his Midtown Trump Tower triplex was 30,000 square feet when it was actually only 11,000 square feet.

Weisselberg also confessed to lying on three other occasions, including the May deposition and while testifying during the civil fraud trial in the Manhattan Supreme Court in October, last year.

This is the second criminal conviction for Trump's longstanding trusted bookkeeper, who had previously pleaded guilty to 15 counts of tax fraud in 2022.

Weisselberg testified against the Trump Organization last year, helping to secure a conviction in December and a $1.6 million fine against the company.

During the subsequent testimony at Trump's civil trial, Weisselberg stated that Trump paid him $2 million as part of a severance agreement from the Trump Organization.

Weisselberg agreed not to "disparage" the 2024 Republican presidential candidate as part of the plea deal.

Seth L Rosenberg, Weisselberg's lawyer, stated in a release that his client looks forward to putting his legal troubles behind him.

“Allen Weisselberg accepted responsibility for his conduct and now looks forward to the end of this life-altering experience and to returning to his family and his retirement,” Rosenberg claimed.

On April 15, however, jury selection will start for Trump's impending criminal trial related to "hush money."

Following allegations that he concealed payments totaling $130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential election, Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts last year.
