MOSINEE, WISCONSIN: Former president Donald Trump warned voters about the future of elections in the United States, as well as of the country itself, if he happens to lose the upcoming general election while speaking at a rally in Wisconsin on Saturday, September 7.

According to Raw Story, Trump's statement has people worried about his intended meaning. He was quickly called out on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by many political observers, as well as actress Bette Midler.

Donald Trump's troubling remark

"I better win," Donald Trump told his rally attendees on Saturday. "I better win or you're gonna have problems like we've never had. We may have no country left."

Coming from the GOP nominee, who stated that he was willing to be a dictator on "day one" if he is voted back into the White House, as reported by the Associated Press, the words come across as particularly worrying for people across the country.

"This may be our last election. You want to know the truth? People have said that. This may be our last election. You have got to get out and vote," added Trump, repeating, "This could be our last election."

Donald Trump faces backlash for threatening voters

Donald Trump's comments faced strong backlash over social media, with political observers highlighting his words as a threat to voters.

"Trump is threatening us, and he means it. If he doesn’t win, he will call for Civil War. Kamala has to win in a #LANDSLIDE so this pig is faced with the truth: Most Americans despise him and everything he stands for," wrote actress Bette Midler, retweeting the clip from Trump's speech.

"Same rhetoric, stoking fear," observed theologian Jared Stacy.

"That's called threatening the voters. Outside of 1930s Germany I am not aware of that working anywhere else," stated former GOP writer Zorek Richards.

"Threats as usual," quipped Luke Zaleski, legal affairs editor for Conde Nast.

Other users across the platform also shared their concerns, with one writing, "Trump’s setting up another coup attempt by saying this could be our last election and we may not have a country if he loses. He is a very dangerous psychopath!"

"Already trying to set the stage for big lie 2 and a Jan 6th sequel," echoed another.
