WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Byron Donalds, a potential contender for former President Donald Trump's vice presidential pick, has claimed he would be ready to serve as president if the situation arises.

The Florida Republican expressed his firm belief in stepping into Trump's shoes in the event of his victory in November and the lawmaker being chosen as the VP in an interview on NBC News 'Meet the Press' on Sunday, June 16.

"Well, I think if you're going to step into that job, it's obviously the toughest job, the biggest job, not just in our politics, but frankly, in the world," Donalds said. "Look, I think that I would have an ability to step in."

Byron Donalds points at his intelligence as his plus point

In order to substantiate that he was capable of stepping into Trump's position as president, Donalds touted his "intelligence" and his ability to sift through issues, adding a vice president's role was "about judgment" and "logic streams."

He also noted that a lot of qualified people would be around to help him with the job of the president and "do what's in the best interest of the American people."

"Do I believe in myself? 100% I do. And, so, you know, we'll see what President Trump decides. I'm going to support whatever he does," the lawmaker added.

Donalds' claim that he is confident of stepping into the shoes of Trump while being a purported running mate candidate could be a problem as insider sources believe the former president is looking for a VP who would not overshadow him, according to TheWrap.

Donalds, who recently drew flak for claiming that Black families were more united during the Jim Crow era, also weighed in on Trump's New York hush money conviction.

Speaking on NBC News, the GOP lawmaker called on the US Supreme Court to take up the guilty verdict against the former president.

Internet slams Byron Donalds for saying about filling the president's role

Netizens lashed out at the Trump VP hopeful after he said he would step into Trump's position as president if such a situation arises.

One user said, "I would never consider a Liar and exaggerated Self-promoter to be ready and fit to serve as Commander in Chief."

"Two things: One: If you have to the people that you're 'very intelligent', well, you know... Two: If you're 'very intelligent', you'd know that Trump won't give you the VP Running Mate Rose," another remarked.

A third user said, "So why do you had this clown on who thinks blacks had it better during segregation? I watched face the nation who had Governor Wes Moore who knows what he’s talking about. Where as Donald’s is a bootlicker."

A fourth response read, "Byron Donalds is insufferable Please don’t waste anymore MTP moments interviewing this Trump goon. He’s an embarrassment to POC."

"Byron Donalds trying to out-stupid Tim Scott in the veepstakes," another person added.

"Oh pleeeze!!! Former felon Byron Donalds is a propagandist. He's not intelligent. He's a grifter with a record that was washed by a opportunist donor. He is so not qualified, just like Trump," someone else claimed.

An individual said, "Just like people who say 'I am not racist' usually means they are, saying 'I'm actually pretty intelligent' usually means they are dumb as shit."
