PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA: Donald Trump is planning to attend the Pittsburgh Steelers versus New York Jets game on Sunday, October 20, sources have shared with the Daily Mail.

However, the GOP nominee is yet to announce which team he will be rooting for, placing enormous pressure on his campaign aides weeks ahead of the general election.

Donald Trump's campaign's headache with seating the GOP nominee

The former president and business tycoon has two options when it comes to choosing his seat at the Sunday game. The first is to sit with the owner of the Jets, his long-time friend Woody Johnson.

The second and more opportunistic seating for Trump would be beside the Rooney family who owns the Steelers, in their box at Acrisure Stadium as Trump is seeking to increase his support among voters of the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

With the election looming ahead, Trump has scheduled to spend the weekend in the state, holding a rally in Latrobe on Saturday, October 19, evening and manning a McDonald's fry station in Philadelphia the following day.

A source told the Daily Mail of the conundrum, "The only issue now is where does he (Trump) sit? With the Rooneys or in Woody Johnson's box and piss off the whole of Pittsburgh."

Importance of Pennsylvania for Donald Trump's campaign

The state of Pennsylvania, with 19 electoral college votes, is the most important among battleground states. A recent poll by the Daily Mail and JL Partners showed Trump and his Democratic rival Kamala Harris tied in the race in the high-stakes state.

Trump narrowly won Pennsylvania in 2016, before President Joe Biden flipped it in 2020 by a margin of 70,000 votes. As a result, the GOP nominee is eager to flip it back once again.

However, there are additional challenges faced by Trump in choosing his seat at the Sunday game. The Rooney family has a strong link with the Democrats. Art Rooney II, the team president of the Steelers, was a donor to Joe Biden's campaign. And his father Dan was Barack Obama's ambassador to Ireland.

Internet trolls Donald Trump over his decision to attend the game

NFL fans were not too thrilled to hear the news. While there is no official confirmation on the same, fans of football absolutely detest politics being brought into the mix.

Football fans are already miffed by the constant bombardment of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce romance when it comes to the Chiefs' games and with Trump attending the Jets game, they fear it will distract from the fun of the game.

"Trump just doing side quests," wrote a user.

"Trump hates football and football hates Trump," claimed another.

"All the 'keep politics out of sports' peddlers are oddly quiet here. I couldn’t begin to fathom why," inquired a third.

"This is so pathetic, it’s funny!" jibed a fourth.

"I thought he was boycotting the NFL, someone is desperate," chided a fifth user.

"He’s worse than Taylor Swift omg," quipped yet another.
