PALM BEACH, FLORIDA:  President Donald Trump’s latest '60 Minutes' interview on CBS has made headlines, but the bigger buzz is over what viewers didn’t see on Sunday, October 2.

In an unaired portion of the segment, Trump claimed that CBS had paid him “a lotta money” to settle a lawsuit.

He was referring to his legal action against '60 Minutes,' in which he accused the network of selectively editing and giving undue focus to former Vice President Kamala Harris’s interview.

Trump says '60 Minutes' paid him millions to settle editing dispute

“Actually, 60 Minutes paid me a lotta money,” Trump said while speaking to CBS host Norah O'Donnell.

“You don’t have to put this on, because I don’t wanna embarrass you, and I’m sure you’re not,” he added. Continuing his point, Trump said, “60 Minutes was forced to pay me, a lot of money, because they took [Harris’s] answer out that was so bad, it was election-changing, two nights before the election. And they put a new answer in. And they paid me a lot of money for that. You can’t have fake news. You’ve gotta have legit news.”

As soon as the interview went online, it quickly sparked widespread discussion, particularly over the parts Trump claimed '60 Minutes' “didn’t want people to see.”

Trump also took a moment to compliment Bari Weiss, the new head of CBS News, saying he believed she would do a good job leading the organization. “You have a great, I think you have a great new leader, frankly, who’s the young woman that’s leading your whole enterprise is a great, from what I know,” he said.

Trump wins $16M settlement from Paramount in CBS ‘60 Minutes’ editing dispute

In October 2024, Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against CBS News and its 60 Minutes program, accusing the network of editing an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris. He claimed that '60 Minutes' aired two different versions of her response about the Israel–Hamas conflict and that the edited version unfairly favored Harris, according to CBS News.

It’s worth noting that Trump filed the lawsuit while running for president. The case was brought in Texas under the state’s Deceptive Trade Practices Act, a consumer protection law. However, many legal experts considered Trump’s claims weak, citing strong First Amendment protections for journalists.

On July 2, 2025, CBS’s parent company, Paramount, agreed to settle the case for $16 million. Despite the substantial payout, the company did not issue an apology or admit any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
