WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump said on Saturday, November 22, that he would like to see Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene return to public life eventually, despite their sharp and very public falling out and said that he is open to reconciliation with her.

Speaking with reporters on Saturday, Trump said, “I just disagreed with her philosophy. She started backing perhaps the worst Republican congressman in our history,” he said, referencing Greene’s support of GOP Rep Thomas Massie of Kentucky.

“I said go your own way and once I left her, she resigned,” Trump said. “She would never have survived the primary, but I think she’s a nice person.”

Greene stunned Washington on Friday night when she announced she would resign from Congress in January.

When asked whether he would reconcile with Greene, he said, “Sure, why not? I mean, I get along with everybody."

Trump says he’d welcome Marjorie Taylor Greene's political comeback

Speaking briefly to NBC News, Trump said reviving her political career “is not going to be easy for her,” but added, “I’d love to see that.” For now, he said, “she’s got to take a little rest.”

Once one of Trump’s staunchest defenders, Greene has recently taken aim at some of his policies. She faulted Trump for focusing too heavily on foreign leaders rather than economic concerns facing Americans.

She also became a vocal advocate for releasing the Jeffrey Epstein files, accusing Trump of blocking their disclosure.

After initially calling the effort a “hoax,” Trump reversed course last week and supported making the files public. He then signed a bill compelling the Justice Department to release them.

The shift did little to calm tensions. The president repeatedly called her a “traitor” and withdrew his support for her re-election.

Trump claims Marjorie Taylor Greene quit to avoid a primary

Hours before speaking to reporters, Trump posted on his social media, claiming that Greene resigned to avoid a bruising primary challenge.

NBC News quoted a person close to Greene and said that the person disputed Trump’s claim, saying she believed she could win re-election easily but was worn down by years of public harassment directed at her and her children.

Greene, who has two daughters and a son in their 20s, “very much looks forward to one day go out in public and not be harassed,” the person said.

“She’ll probably take a step back and be a private, normal person again,” the source added.

Despite the escalating feud, Greene’s confidants said that she still sees herself as a loyal supporter who refused to “turn a blind eye” when she disagreed.

“She was one of his biggest allies in Congress… It was disappointing to her to see” the denunciations, the person close to her said.

Asked whether he could reconcile with Greene, Trump replied, “I can patch up differences with anyone.”
