Trump says talks held with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy

During the Kennedy Center Honors’ red carpet event, Donald Trump said that the administration had been speaking to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Trump added that Ukrainians “love” the plan, and that Russia was “fine with it.” However, Zelenskyy had not read the proposal.

He further added that he did not understand the delay from the Ukrainian president's side and joked that one day someone would have to explain that to him.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy warns of divided visions on Donbas

On Monday, ahead of his meeting with several European leaders, Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to Bloomberg News about the same. He said that there were “visions of the US, Russia, and Ukraine,” however, they “don’t have a united view on Donbas.”

He further raised a question, asking what would Ukraine’s “partners” do if Russia decided to start a war again.

Previously, Zelenskyy had commented on the ongoing peace talks during his nightly video address on X. During the video, the Ukrainian president chimed in on his conversation with Donald Trump and said that the “conversation was constructive, although not easy.”

Elaborating further, Zelenskyy said that NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov were on their way to Europe.

He added that he expected “detailed information from them” about what would be said to the American envoys in Moscow and the “nuances the Americans are prepared to modify” in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

Zelenskyy said that America was aware of Ukraine’s “core positions” and that, despite the “not easy” conversation, the two countries were continuing to work together.  “Some issues can only be discussed in person,” he added.

He added that Ukraine deserved “dignified peace,” and said that it depended entirely on Russia.

“On our collective pressure on Russia and on the sound negotiating positions of the United States, Europe, and all our other partners,” Zelenskyy added in the video message.

He further said that Russia must be “held accountable” for the “daily strikes,” “constant terror” against Ukrainians, and “the war itself.”
