EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY: President Donald Trump didn’t receive the reaction he may have hoped for as he attended the nail-biting Club World Cup final between Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain.

The 79-year-old president was rained with boos as cameras panned to him at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, June 13.

Donald Trump brutally booed at the Club World Cup final

Footage from USA Today showed the audience erupting in boos as the jumbotron showed the commander-in-chief saluting from his midfield luxury box as the National Anthem played before the match.

The loud boos prompted the screen to quickly shuffle elsewhere, but chants of "USA, USA!" followed as the performance of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' ended.

In his midfield luxury box, Trump was joined by first lady Melania Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, as well as NFL legend Tom Brady, media mogul Rupert Murdoch, and FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

This was not the only time that the president faced boos at the final. Later, he was again met with boos as he joined Infantino in awarding the trophy to Chelsea, who shocked European champions PSG to win the final 3-0.

Infantino moved out of the frame of television cameras, while Trump remained still, putting himself fully in focus as Chelsea captain Reece James lifted the trophy and his teammates celebrated around him.

The hostile reception did not evoke a reaction from the MAGA leader, who later gushed enthusiastically about the thrill of witnessing the final firsthand.

“It’s a big thing [competition], Gianni’s a friend of mine. But it’s great to watch,” Trump told DAZN, adding, “This is a little bit of an upset we’re watching today. [Fifa has done] fantastically well, it’s a growing sport, it’s a great sport.”

After winning the 2024 presidential race, Trump has attended a number of sporting events, including last year's NCAA football game between Georgia and Alabama and this year's Super Bowl LIX.

This time, the president came out to support soccer as the FIFA Club World Cup came to an end.

Donald Trump jokes about signing executive order mandating soccer be called ‘football’ in America

At the final, Donald Trump even joked about signing an executive order mandating the US to call soccer “football” in line with the rest of the world.

During a post-match interview, Trump was thrilled when a reporter proposed issuing a new executive order that would formally rename soccer as "football" in the US.

“I think we could do that,” he told DAZN.

He claimed that he was thrilled to see soccer in the US flourish and that he hoped it would soon catch up to the other nations in the world rankings.

“[The US] is doing very well on the other stage, on the political stage, on the financial stage. I was just in Saudi Arabia, I was in Qatar, I was in the UAE. Here we have Qatar, you know, the big presence they have, but you have all of the leaders, and then you look at NATO, all of the leaders said ‘a year ago your country was dead, and now you have the hottest country in the world,'” Trump told the outlet.
