WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump, 79, found himself in a sticky spot on Thursday, September 4, during a glitzy dinner with some of the biggest names in tech, until first lady Melania Trump swooped in to save him.

The televised dinner was held in the newly renovated White House Rose Garden and brought together two dozen tech power players, including Bill Gates, Sam Altman, Sergey Brin, Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg, and Tim Cook. The event was about artificial intelligence, but it gave us a sneak peek into Melania’s influence.

Melania helps out Trump without missing a beat

The moment came when a reporter asked, “After your phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky today, do you plan to speak with Russia's President Putin in the near future?”

Trump leaned in and muttered softly to Melania, “What?” Without missing a beat, the first lady repeated the question for her husband, “If you’re going to speak with President Putin in the near future.”

The MAGA leader then responded, "I will be. We're having a very good dialogue."

The dinner also doubled as a loyalty roll call. Since Trump retook office earlier this year, many tech leaders have ditched diversity, equity, and inclusion policies to show they’re in his corner.

Last month, Apple boss Cook even gifted Trump a gilded, glass trophy during a White House visit, celebrating Apple’s $100 billion commitment to US manufacturing.

But questions about Trump’s health have been clouding these events. His conspicuous disappearance from the public eye for nearly a week set off a wave of conspiracy theories, especially after he was diagnosed in July with chronic venous insufficiency and frequent photos showed a bruise on his hand.

Some theorists went so far as to claim he had died over Labor Day weekend. Trump, however, popped up for a press conference earlier this week and put that chatter to rest.

Melania Trump’s growing influence

Thursday’s little save confirmed that Melania Trump has a bigger hand in her husband’s second term than people realize. Though she spends much of her time in Manhattan and Palm Beach, CNN reported last week that she and Trump are in constant communication.

The president himself spilled just how sharp her instincts can be. “I tell the first lady, ‘You know, I spoke to Vladimir [Putin] today — we had a wonderful conversation,’” he recalled during a July Oval Office meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. “She said, ‘Oh, really? Another city was just hit.’”

The former model also made waves during Trump’s “peace summit” with Putin in Alaska last month. The talks fizzled early without an agreement, but Melania managed to make her presence felt with a heartfelt letter she penned to the Russian leader.

In it, she urged Putin to think about the innocent children caught in the war in Ukraine. She wrote that he has the power to “singlehandedly restore their melodic laughter.” Trump reportedly hand-delivered her letter before the meetings.

Melania hasn’t publicly issued statements on the conflicts in Ukraine or Gaza, but both wars have issues that sources say are deeply personal to her.

“I think that a lot of people underestimate how normal of a couple they are… He listens to her and seeks her counsel,” a source familiar with the Trumps told CNN. “She only wades in when she really will go to the paint on something — and she really cares about kids.”
