WASHINGTON, DC: Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed a motion to file a contempt of court lawsuit against former President Donald Trump. Bragg argued that Trump violated a gag order by repeatedly posting on social media three times about Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels. Both are witnesses who could testify against Trump in court, according to Fox News.

Bragg is pleading with Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan to caution Trump that "future violations" of the gag order may result in "not only additional fines but also a term of incarceration of up to thirty days."

In March, Merchan placed Trump under a gag order because of his "prior extrajudicial statements." They posed "a sufficient risk to the administration of justice," according to Merchan.

Merchan ruled that Trump was not allowed to speak publicly about witnesses and their potential involvement, about any of the attorneys involved (apart from Bragg), about court staff, district attorney staff, or staff members' families.

Merchan ruled that Trump was not permitted to speak publicly about any potential juror or selected jury or to compel others to do so.

Prosecutors in Manhattan said that Trump had broken the order three times on social media on the opening day of the criminal trial and jury selection. For the three alleged breaches of the gag order, the prosecution recommended that Trump be fined $3,000 or $1,000 for each violation.

Moreover, a motion to punish the former president and presumed Republican presidential nominee in contempt of court was filed by Bragg's team.

The first thing that Bragg's team said was against the injunction was a social media post made on April 10 regarding lawyer Michael Avenatti, who used to represent adult film star Stormy Daniels. Subsequently, Avenatti was found guilty of stealing from Daniels.

Trump reposted an Avenatti statement in April stating, "We can’t be hypocrites when it comes to the 1st Amendment. It is outrageous that Cohen and Daniels can do countless TV interviews, post on social, & make $$ on bogus documentaries—all by talking s**t about Trump—but he’s gagged and threatened with jail if he responds."

Internet blasts Alvin Bragg for filing motion to hold Trump in contempt for gag order violations

Many people on the internet slammed DA Alvin Bragg as he filed a request to charge former president Donald Trump in contempt of court.

A user wrote on X, "I hold Bragg in contempt" while one added, "If they give trump jail time he will go up 5 per cent in the polls." A person also wrote, "This can't be allowed to continue. This is clear targeted persecution. They can openly smear and tarnish his name but say that he can not speak freely?"

A person also mentioned, "They are doing their very best they can to make his everyday life miserable, hopefully, it back fires" whereas one stated, "We all know what game you guys want to play with Trump but he will surely pass."

A person also wrote, "These people really don’t get it yet. The more they persecute him, the stronger his base gets. Mark my words, you convict and attempt to jail him. You may as well hand him the keys to the White House."
