Trump trolls Iran with viral memes mocking failed drones: ‘Dropping like butterflies’
WASHINGTON, DC: Amid intense diplomatic efforts to secure a peace deal aimed at ending the conflict between the United States and Iran, President Donald Trump on Saturday afternoon, May 9, shared several mocking posts targeting Iran’s drone program.
Trump’s trolling posts came on the same day he said he hoped to receive Tehran’s response to the peace deal “very soon,” signaling that negotiations to end the conflict may be entering a critical phase.
Trump compares Iranian drones to ‘butterflies’
Trump shared memes suggesting Iranian drones were weak and ineffective against the US military. One meme compared falling Iranian drones to butterflies dropping into the ocean. The image used humor to suggest the drones were being easily destroyed or crashing without causing damage.

The post appeared to mock Iran’s military capabilities in comparison to American military strength.
Trump followed it with what appeared to be an AI-generated image of a US battleship shooting down five drones. The picture showed massive explosions and carried the words, “Bye Bye, Drones.”

The president concluded the posting spree with an image comparing a fleet of Iranian ships sailing at sea with the same vessels later shown wrecked beneath the ocean.
The image contrasted the sailing Iranian vessels with the Obama and Biden administrations, while the destroyed vessels were linked to the Trump administration’s hardline foreign policy stance.
“159 Iranian ships” was written on the image shared by Trump.

Trump awaits Iran response on peace deal
Speaking in an interview with a French television reporter, Trump said Tehran remained interested in reaching an agreement, suggesting Iran’s response to Washington’s latest peace proposal would come “very soon.”
Trump indicated discussions between the two sides were ongoing and told French journalist Margot Haddad during a telephone conversation that he expected a response from Iran in the near future.

“We're getting a letter (from Iran) supposedly tonight, so we'll see how that goes,” Trump said. When asked whether Iran might be intentionally delaying the process, Trump responded, “I don't know. We'll find out soon enough.”
