Trump's stunt at 'Rolls Royce' of border walls falls flat due to wrong location
SIERRA VISTA, ARIZONA: Former President Donald Trump's 2024 White House race is centered on his border agenda, with frequent boasts about his achievements in building a border wall during his presidency.
On Thursday, August 22, the GOP presidential nominee visited a border barrier at Montezuma Pass, Arizona, where he proudly referred to it as the "Rolls Royce" of walls.
However, Trump's choice of location to show off his efforts to prevent illegal migrants from entering the US could not be more wrong for two reasons.
The primary reason is that the wall segment was actually built during Barack Obama's presidency, not Trump's, according to a report by The Washington Post.
Additionally, Trump's efforts to complete the barrier ultimately fell short.
Donald Trump makes false claim about 'Rolls Royce' of walls
Donald Trump's boasting about the "Rolls Royce" of walls fell flat after Cochise County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the section of the wall the MAGA spearhead referred to was actually built during the Obama administration.
According to the Washington Post, during the Trump administration, an extension near the wall built by his predecessor was started but never completed. The project, estimated to cost $35 million per mile, left most of the unused construction materials piled up in the area.
During his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump promised to build a "big beautiful wall" along the 2,000-mile US-Mexico border, and he later asserted that he had completed its construction.
"I did finish the wall," he said in a CNN town hall in May 2023. "I built a wall."
However, the former president did not complete the full wall as promised. His administration rebuilt approximately 400 miles of existing barriers and added around 52 miles of new wall. Some of these new sections were even destroyed during a storm.
According to a 2022 report from HuffPost, Trump's wall was breached thousands of times using "inexpensive power tools." Additionally, the barrier could be easily bypassed with a simple ladder made from materials costing just $5.
Internet slams Trump for boasting about border wall built by Barack Obama
Netizens mocked Donald Trump for bragging about the border wall in Arizona, which was actually built by Obama. They also criticized him for the destruction of the section he constructed.
"I totally remember when that portion of wall he built fell over... Just like Rudy Giuliani into a pile of chairs drunk," a user wrote.
"Rolls Royce in price, but Edsel in quality," another remarked. "He never fails to fail," added a user.
"Welp, at least the podium held...this time," read another response.
