Trump’s Save America Leadership PAC drowning in legal debt amid ex-POTUS’ court battles
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Former President Donald Trump's legal battles continue to intensify as revelations from recent filings shed light on the dire financial situation of his Save America leadership PAC.
With mounting debts exceeding $1.1 million to various law firms and a staggering $3.3 million spent solely on legal consulting last month, Trump's financial outlook appears increasingly bleak, as reported by The Daily Beast.
Save America leadership PAC's largest debt is to Todd Blanche's law firm
As of early May, Trump's Save America PAC owed $1.1 million to five law firms, alongside the nearly $3.3 million it spent on legal consulting the previous month. The largest debt was $837,000 to Blanche Law, a firm founded by Todd Blanche.
This amount piled up largely since late March, with the PAC paying Blanche's firm $854,000 in just two weeks in April. Blanche has been serving as the lead counsel for Trump’s defense in the hush money trial in Manhattan and is also involved in Trump’s classified documents case in Florida and the federal election interference case in DC.
Steven Yurowitz's firm, Yurowitz Law PLCC, had a debt of $168,000 from Save America in April. Yurowitz is another key lawyer in the hush money case.
Additionally, Dhillon Law Group, founded by Harmeet Dhillon, a Republican National Committee member, was owed $96,000 as of early May. Dhillon, who unsuccessfully ran for RNC chair last year, stated that "Save America is current on all of its obligations to our firm" and expressed pride in having them as a client.
Despite these obligations, the PAC managed to eliminate its debt to Robert & Robert, a law firm working on the fraud case brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James against the Trump Organization. Overall, from March to April, the PAC’s net legal debt increased by $245,000.
Save America leadership PAC distributing legal funds among a dozen firms
In April, Save America spent close to $3.3 million on legal consulting, distributing these funds among a dozen firms.
Chris Kise, involved in both the hush money and classified documents cases, received over half a million dollars through associated firms. John Lauro, co-counsel with Blanche in the election interference case, was paid $390,000.
The James Otis Law Group, led by D John Sauer, who argued for Trump’s immunity from election interference prosecution, received $174,000. Trump's lawyer and spokesperson, Alina Habba, saw her firm receive $140,000.
Steven Cheung, Trump campaign communications director, commented on the situation, saying, "President Trump's lawyers will continue to fight all of these Biden Trials and they will continue to be appropriately compensated for their time and efforts."
Save America leadership PAC relying on transfers from two other Trump-affiliated PACs
To manage these extensive legal expenses, Save America has been relying on substantial transfers from two other Trump-affiliated PACs, which are not required to disclose their finances until July. Additionally, a $2.75 million refund from the pro-Trump super PAC, Make America Great Again Inc, was used to help pay these legal bills.
Despite the mounting legal bills, the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) saw a successful fundraising month in April. Campaign officials shared with The New York Times that the combined efforts of Trump’s campaign and the RNC's national joint fundraising initiatives raised a total of $76.2 million.
This amount significantly surpassed the $51 million raised by President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign and the Democratic National Committee in the same period.
