DETROIT, MICHIGAN: Tulsi Gabbard, the former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii, who has transitioned to an independent, endorsed former president Donald Trump for the upcoming November election.

Gabbard announced her support for Donald Trump on Monday, August 27, during a National Guard Association event in Michigan.

Gabbard expressed the reasons for endorsing Trump keeping in consideration concerns about the administration's foreign policy and increased risk of nuclear conflict.

“This administration has us facing multiple wars on multiple fronts in regions around the world, and closer to the brink of nuclear war than we ever have been before,” Gabbard stated, according to The Hill.

“This is one of the main reasons why I am committed to doing all that I can to send President Trump back to the White House, where he can once again serve us as our commander in chief,” she added.

@His first task will be to do the work to walk us back from the brink of war," she added.

The former Democrat ran in the 2019 Democratic presidential primary against Harris and after leaving Congress and the Democratic Party, she has appeared at conservative events and engaged in debates on political issues.

During the Democratic primary debate, Tulsi Gabbard criticized Kamala Harris for her record on marijuana offenses.

“She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana,” Gabbard said of Harris.

Gabbard, a lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserve who served in the Hawaii Army National Guard for 17 years, has been working with Trump in preparation for his upcoming debate with Harris scheduled for September 10.

On Monday, August 26, Gabbard also joined Trump at Arlington National Cemetery to mark the third anniversary of the Kabul airport attack. She is also going to join him for the campaign.

Gabbard's endorsement of Trump comes in the wake of other political shifts. Recently, Robert F Kennedy Jr suspended his independent presidential bid and endorsed Trump.

"Trump understands the grave responsibility that a president and commander in chief bears for every single one of our lives," Gabbard said on Monday, August 26, as per CNN.

"We saw this through his first term in the presidency when he not only didn’t start any new wars, he took action to de-escalate and prevent wars,” she said, arguing Trump sees war as a “last resort." The same, she said can't be told of Kamala Harris.

Meanwhile, over 200 former Republican staffers, including those who worked for George W Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney, have endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president, a letter cited by USA Today states.

Tulsi Gabbard's endorsement for Donald Trump seen as 'huge' on internet

Online responses to Tulsi Gabbard's endorsement have been mixed with some claiming it was a major development while others claim that, in contrast to Harris' campaign, what Republicans or Trump were doing was merely face-saving.

“Tulsi Gabbard loves this country enough that she doesn't want to see it be further destroyed under a Harris presidency. Good for her for putting partisans politics aside and doing what's best for the United States,” one user wrote on X.

Another noted, “President Trump is the unity candidate." One commented, “Doesn't mean anything. It's almost like the Trump campaign is relying on these endorsements to boost momentum in the wake of Kamala Harris gaining ground in the polls.”

One more said, "THIS IS HIGE."

Others speculated about Gabbard’s debate skills, with one remarking, “Tulsi also knows how to crush Kamala in a debate. No wonder Harris is trying to get the rules changed.”
