CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS: Anti-Israel demonstrators ignited controversy at Harvard University when they raised Palestinian flags on campus, taking up a spot usually reserved for the American flag, as per New York Post.

On Saturday, April 27, within the iconic Harvard Yard, usually bustling with students, the atmosphere shifted when three Palestinian flags went up on poles attached to University Hall. This location traditionally hosts the American flag or flags representing visiting foreign dignitaries.

The protest was organized by the group 'Harvard Out of Occupied Palestine,' which demanded that the university "disclose and divest from Israeli apartheid and occupation."

Despite vocal objections from protesters who shouted chants of "Shame!" and slogans advocating for Palestinian freedom, university staff swiftly intervened, removing the flags nearly an hour after their emergence.

According to university spokesman Jonathan L Swain, raising unauthorized flags violated university policy, and the individuals involved would face disciplinary action. This incident unfolded against a backdrop of ongoing tensions surrounding an unauthorized encampment in Harvard Yard.

The flag incident came shortly after Harvard's Dean of Students, Tom Dunne, sent an email warning that those participating in the encampment would face disciplinary consequences for violating university rules.

Dunne stated, "Maintaining and participating in this extensive encampment of tents in Harvard Yard constitutes an ongoing violation of University rules by interfering with the normal activities and operations of our campus and disrupting the work of fellow students and other Harvard community members."

Dunne added, "Those participating in the ongoing encampment and associated activities will face disciplinary consequences as outlined in existing policies. Repeated or sustained violations will be subjected to increased sanctions." However, he did not provide a deadline for students to disband.

Harvard's encampment is aligned with a broader solidarity movement, joining forces with Columbia University's 'Gaza Solidarity' tent encampment and similar initiatives emerging nationwide.
