Unraveling the hidden meaning behind Kate Middleton’s purple and green bow as she attends Wimbledon final
LONDON, ENGLAND: Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, made a royal comeback to Wimbledon on Sunday, July 14, marking her second public appearance ever since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March.
Naturally, fans were overjoyed by her charming presence in the front-row seats of the Royal Box.
As the Princess of Wales was given an exuberant standing ovation by the audience, which made her daughter Princess Charlotte beam with pride, many eagle-eyed fans noticed a crucial detail in Kate’s outfit - a small purple and green bow pinned to the front of her dress.
Significance behind Kate Middleton’s brooch
As a royal, Kate is no stranger to elegant diamond-studded brooches. But the bi-color bow holds a special significance for the mother-of-three as the green and purple bow signifies the colors of the tournament.
Kate has held the position of the patron of the All England Lawn and Tennis Club (which organizes the Wimbledon) since 2016, per Daily Mail.
From the next year, that is, from 2017, Kate has been donning the elegant bow, every time she attends Wimbledon.
Thus, during this year’s event as well - which marked her second public outing ever since announcing her cancer diagnosis - the Princess of Wales proudly flaunted the colors.
She accepted the role of becoming the patron of AELTC from Queen Elizabeth who held it for 64 years.
As she attended this year’s men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, she donned a dark lavender dress from Safiyaa London.
The future queen attended the sporting event with her nine-year-old daughter Charlotte who beamed with pride when her mother received standing ovation from the crowd. The group was rounded off by Kate's sister Pippa Middleton, who was also in attendance.
Kate Middleton stood and waved at Wimbledon audience
Kate Middleton's attendance sent the audience into a frenzy, as observed by photographer Karwai Tang.
He recently shared with People, “When [Kate] usually comes in, she walks down the steps and into her seat. She doesn’t normally stand and wave.”
“But she stood for a while and took it all in. For her to acknowledge it and take in the applause was special,” continued Tang, who captured the princess's heartwarming photos.
The photographer added, "She seemed to look no different from the last Wimbledon. It felt like she is back," before noting, “For them to cheer and clap when they came in was a great support for her. Wimbledon had been waiting with bated breath for her to return and she was back.”
