LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of former President Barack Obama, made a noteworthy appearance on the red carpet to promote her directorial debut.
Malia showcased her film 'The Heart' at the esteemed 50th annual Deauville American Film Festival in France, and was honored with the Young Spirit Award. The 26-year-old dazzled in a Vivienne Westwood ensemble for the occasion.

Opting for a plaid outfit, the former first daughter, who chose to use her name Malia Ann for her Hollywood career, stunned in a red, white, and grey off-shoulder corset top paired with a high-low blue-and-white skirt, both from Vivienne Westwood’s fall 2024 collection.
Complementing her look, she wore black knee-length leather boots and her hair in flowing brown locks, accentuated by her radiant smile. During the event, Malia praised the late designer, referring to her as a “queen.”
In a video shared by French magazine Paris Match, she remarked, "It's cool. I don't know much about fashion, but I'm happy to be wearing it."

In her rare public appearance, Malia expressed her excitement to reporters, saying, “I’m so excited. I’ve never done anything like this before, so I’m a little bit terrified but mostly just excited.”

Earlier in the year, Malia's short film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Before her filmmaking debut, she interned on the HBO series 'Girls' and at Harvey Weinstein's production company.
The Harvard graduate also contributed as a writer on Donald Glover's Amazon Prime show 'Swarm'.
Malia’s short film, lasting 18 minutes, explores the emotional journey of a son coping with his mother's death and her poignant final request.

In a video interview with Meet-artist, Obama described her film as a reflection on themes such as loneliness, forgiveness, and regret. She emphasized the film’s focus on the significance of closeness and empathy when navigating these complex emotions.
'The Heart' has received critical acclaim, being nominated in the best live-action short category at both the Telluride and Chicago film festivals.
Malia conveyed her hopes for the film, stating, "We hope that you enjoy the film and that it makes you feel a bit less lonely or at least reminds you not to forget about the people who are."
