FLINT, MICHIGAN: In his first public appearance since surviving a second assassination attempt, former president Donald Trump praised Vice President Kamala Harris for calling him and being concerned about his well-being. The GOP presidential candidate's remarks were met with a wave of boos from the MAGA crowd at the event.

Speaking at a town hall in Flint, Michigan, Trump recalled how both leaders reached out to him following the shocking incident at his Mar-a-Lago golf course.

During the event, Donald Trump shared that Kamala Harris had called him. "It was very, very nice, we appreciate the phone call,” before adding that she “could not have been nicer.”

He also revealed that President Joe Biden had personally checked on him, saying, “He was very nice. He called up to make sure that I was OK.”

The president went as far as to ask the 45th president if he “needed more people on my detail.”

He later confirmed this offer to the press, noting that the Secret Service “needs more help” and expressing his relief that Trump was unharmed.

Donald Trump recounted the harrowing moment when "four to five gunshots" rang out while he was golfing with real estate developer Steve Witkoff on Sunday, September 15.

As per authorities, the alleged gunman, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, pointed an AK-47-style rifle through a chain-link fence at Trump, who was playing golf at the Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach, and was "intent on filming" the attack using a GoPro mounted on the fence.

The suspect reportedly fled in an SUV when a Secret Service agent opened fire after spotting the muzzle of his rifle protruding from the tree line at the perimeter of the course, the Daily Mail reported.

However, a witness took photos of his vehicle and its license plate, which helped authorities track down the suspect and take him into custody.

Routh, who reportedly has a criminal history dating back to the 1990s, was charged with federal gun crimes in connection with the apparent assassination attempt. Thanks to swift action from Trump's Secret Service team, the GOP nominee emerged unscathed.

“It was quite something, but it worked out well... the Secret Service did an excellent job, and they have the man behind bars,” Trump said, calling the assailant a "very dangerous person."

Despite the dangerous ordeal, Trump’s focus shifted to how he could turn the event into political capital, though his appreciation for Harris and Biden’s concern clearly didn’t sit well with the crowd.

A detention hearing for Routh has been set for September 23, and the arraignment is scheduled for September 30.
