Watch Matthew Perry introducing Oasis in resurfaced video amid rumors of rock band's reunion
LONDON, UK: Amid rumors of British rock icons Oasis' reunion, a resurfaced footage of a three-decade-old show is doing the rounds of the Internet.
The footage is evoking nostalgia among fans from both sides of the Atlantic as the resurfaced video shows the Britpop megastars performing on ‘Saturday Night Live’ after being introduced by Matthew Perry.
As the band performed on October 4, 1997, in SNL, they were introduced by none other than Perry, who was then at the height of his superstardom owing to his starring role in ‘Friends’.
As the band tried to make an impression on their American fans, they played songs ‘Some Might Say’, ‘Acquiesce’ and ‘Don't Go Away’.
Matthew Perry’s enablers arrested for his death
The footage went viral days after five individuals related to Matthew Perry’s untimely death were arrested by the Department of Justice.
The ‘17 Again’ actor was found dead on October 28, 2023, in his Pacific Palisades home. An autopsy report later revealed that he died of “acute effects of ketamine.”
After months of investigation, the authorities charged five enablers for his death including two doctors - Dr Salvadore Plasencia and Dr Mark Chavez; a woman named Jasveen Sangha, who has been dubbed as “Ketamine Queen of Los Angeles”; a broker named Erik Fleming and Perry’s live-in assistant Kenneth “Kenny” Iwamasa.
Oasis hints at a possible reunion
The famous Britpop band was formed in Manchester in 1991 with Liam Gallagher, Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan and Tony McCarroll as the founding members. Months later, Liam’s older brother Noel Gallagher, 57, joined the group completing their set.
However, following a backstage fight in Paris in 2009, Noel left the band causing a crack in the group, per Daily Mail.
Now 15 years after their initial split, it has been speculated that a reunion may be on the horizon after Oasis has been promised a hefty payday of almost $66 million to regroup and embark on a world tour.
Per Daily Mail, Liam, 51, has shown an inclination toward patching up with his younger brother in recent days, but Noel has showed minimal response.
However, a $26 million divorce with his ex-wife Sara MacDonald last year, has persuaded Noel to think of a reunion. Previously, Liam seemed to have confirmed the reunion tour of the band. When asked on X about their return, he said, “See you down the front.” He doubled down later, writing, “I never did like that word FORMER.”
Liam's tweets came just after speculations arose in British musical circles of a possible reunion tour with concerts lined up in venues like Wembley, Manchester and Glastonbury Festival.
They would likely be playing for ten nights at the Wembley Stadium, breaking Taylor Swift's eight-night record at the same venue.
